After being into aviation for a long long time and visting many an old WW2 RAF station that has long turned in to dust or used for farming, with grass growing through the runways and the buildings being deserted and empty of glass in the window frames, Its bizarre reading some of the reports from various members visiting Lyneham.
The very same things happening to this airfield to which i was stationed in the 1990`s are making me feel very old. I feel as though i must buy a blazer and have my unit badge stitched on to the pocket of it. A strange attatchment of pride to a major passing of history 🙁
Perhaps birds dont need to do it becouse there is no real reason to in nature. It would be a waste of energy i suppose. Or is it becouse they cant do physicaly due to the homing instinct built deep within. Something like a mental gyroscope keeping them the right way up???.
Ref France. Im in the early stages of planning for the 7th – 15th April. Been recommended to a campsite in Luc Sur Mer which is about 100 yards from Juno beach. Right in the middle of it all. Must remember to pack my string vest n knotted hanky for my noggin 😀

Ha ha they sound like bodily functions rather than birds. I will look them up 😉

There`s a really good campsite there. Stayed at it a couple of times in the past. There cant be many Airfield campsites?. The pitches are on the old Eng site if i remember right. Over the far side of the airfield some model flying that goes on and a few light weight things flew in and out whilst i was there. I even got to go up in the tower which was in quite good nick considering. It was fantastic to be able to wander around the whole of the airfield on an evening time. As you stand at the end of the runway you could almost feel the vibration of the WW2 engines gunning for take off. 😉
There`s not often a tear is brought to my eye unless its with laughter but this is a rare rare occasion otherwise. Ruddy hell that hit home!!!
What a fantastic sight. i often just glance at formations of Spits roaring by but this was great and ive watched it a couple of times now 😀 . Thanks for sharing it..
I dare say its a bit more of a challenge for these 4 becouse they are different marks of aircraft trying to stay together. There`s a Sea Hurri in there also… Just trying to keep a pair of motorbikes riding side by side is hard but if one is a Japanese machine of the same cc its almost impossible. So adding the 3rd dimension of flight makes things far more interesting.
They are…but I diidn’t want to mention it. :0
I knew that but i thought having 4 very similar types to what your looking for in formation might brighten up the day inbetween all the words and info. plenty of that you seem to be getting which is great 😉
Thought you might like to see these 😉
On in min 😮
Thats a good idea. i will try that. Thanks for the reply as I had given up hope
The Airfix kit of that Comet gives it as Brunswick Green no3.
