Just another update.. Ive got a 2 day break from it now due to school plays and work.. I started on the floats 1st and that took 3 attempts at thrashing paint around until i got somewhere im happy`ish with.. Ive still got a long long way to go yet and each flick of the brush is a learning curve as this is only my 5th painting ever.

Thanks again to all the help and picture info 😉

The Dove pictures are from a mate who was doing some work at someones house etc. He got chatting about local history and then these were produced and printed off on the chaps home pc printer. Ive in turn taken pictures as i dont have a scanner hence the crap quality sorry.. I will chase my mate up with the new info and try n get him to get some better pics in return (bribe) for the crash info 😉

    Thanks Chaps

Funny how the tail letters are mounted quite high. At least the 7 is all white which makes life easier. That littlle trim tab, was only on this a/c?

This second lot is a Spam Can from Sleap airfield i think. I was taken to it in the late 1980`s or 90`s where i took these pics but for the life of me cant remember where about other than it being in Shropshire.

In the one picture looking between the tail and cabin you can just make out the route it took whilst ploughing through the cabbage field.

Excellent Matty. The kind of thing i never thought to look for. Its gone into my faves list to pour over later. Im just trying to tie up an event 1596 took part in becouse ive now been made aware that the aircraft changed day by day almost in minor details 😮

Cheers Chumpy. I tried my best to get my wording right hahaha.

Yep that a good angle to get an idea of the hight of the horns in amongst other things… If there`s any good detail pics of the bracing wires beneath the wings and between the floats anywhere that would be a great help? 😀

The idea behind the picture is for the S6b to be entering a shallow dive to build up some speed before the straight and level run in. Yep probably a wee bit high but too late now lol.. I was trying to imagine and hoped that it would not be flying in on a low level course from a great distance due to the higher risk of bird strikes and also the risk of shipping in the area further out?. plus theres always artist license 😉

Ive also been trying to get in the minds eye of the pilot but just by chance ive got the S6b heading in the right direction. Although from this point the aircraft could turn either way in a sweeping aileron turn.

    S-1596 it is then 😀

.. Building up the layers now before hitting it with the shading and reflections

Oddly enough Ive just been having a shufty through the few pictures i have and have been confused between the number swapping etc 😮 . The model i have depicts 1595 but with the number 7 on it. In the pictures ive seen of 1595 theres no number 7 in fact nothing at all. All the others are of 1596 with just a white 7 but my model depicts 1595 with a black 7 with a white outline, is the model correct at all?? .

Ideally i would like a number 7 in there somewhere. Thinking about it i would like to depict a rarer moment rather than the more famous events. Im interested in being pointed in a direction as im clueless at this point

All boils down to money. It was going to cost zillions to recover the P38, Zillions again to preserve then restore it but for it only to be worth about 1 zillion.

Right im dotting onto the Aircraft now. A request for some rear shots of the S6b please. As the model lacks any mass balance horns, rigging and has cross members between the floats that didnt exist i want to try and correct these issues in the painting which im going to crack on with this eve..

Amongst other things I notice on some pictures there is a trim tab on the rudder. Was this a fixed item thats only adjustable on the ground/water??..

If one or two pics at this sort of angle could be dusted off i would be eternally grateful.

Thaddeus are you serious your self????????, Is that meant to be funny or constructive in the slightest??. The kids are 6-8 year olds!!. they go to school to learn and educate themselves for a normal enjoyable life. Not the scitzo one you live in.. What kind of a school did you go to? . Not a normal one by the sounds of it.

Even if they were older teens in a dodgy school with lots of gangs in the area etc. What your talking abouts is an arms race, Trouble with that is if everyone starts carrying guns (WTF for in a school?) then the next step would be more fire power, Grenades etc
