You’ll like this! I have a 1968 addition of the Royal Air Force year book and it says that Concorde is been considerd as the RAF’s next nuclear strike platform ( remeber 1968 ) it has an artists impression with it carrying 3 Blue steel. I dont no how true this was
I’ve been watching the F-22 perform on utube, I have seen the Typhoon performe quite a few times now in the flesh and thought its awsome but when i saw the pics of the F-22 in the turning circle using vectored thrust that was beyond good! Turn the typhoon into a mud mover and lets buy raptors for air defence;)
I sat in the co-pilots seat in the Nimrod AEW when they did full power engine ground runs, what an amazing sound, not too dissimlar to the vulcan noise i thought. Finningley was a massive place that had lots of money spent on it i believe, why they closed it i’m not sure most likely to its second line role, also it didnt have any HAS buildings so it becoming front line again was unlikely. Around South Yorks was rich pickings for RAF bases, Finningley, Lindholme, Bircotes, Worksop, Doncaster, Firbeck, Gamston and Snaith not far away, now all gone Finningley been the last:(
What about the nimrod and F4J anything saved from them?
was defo a vulcan there, was stored at the far side of the airfield, i had a photo from the 88 airshow, now lost:mad: when i did my school work experience during 92 i asked and told she had been scrapped a few years before, just wondered if the cockpit had been saved
Harrier!
Cheers for the info, cant wait to see it when the wings are attached
I’ve seen the pics of it at the Garber Facility before, The last pics i saw were of it partly restored i was just wondering how it is now, is it finished?
Breighton is not far from me and i always go to the airshow and open days there, i think its a shame it will no longer be based at Breighton, like the new paint work though

Could it be made into a flyer:D
it looks alot worse than it actualy is, as you can see theres no superchager, and the reduction gear at the front was broken. I did take some new photos at the weeknd of it as it is now but something went wrong with the camera, will take some more soon. All i can say at the moment is the engine has one of the heads off to inspect the internals, see what needs replacing and cleaning, a new superchager has been obtaind, prop hubs going away to be sorted.
Cheers for the info, We did the beau too, not much there but a few bits and bobs
The aircraft or wot we recoverd is now in South Yorkshire, the merlin is currently been stripped to see what needed to make it a runner again, its good but does need abit of work, well it has been in the ground 60+ years! She must have gone in with a dead engine we think because of the good condition of the merlin. The crash site was in East Yorkshire, sorry cant give anything away as to the precise location at the moment, you now how things are every man and his dog will be there looking to see if they can find any bits. Think we will be going back over the site again this year just to check to make sure we havnt missed anything.
Will put some pics up at the weeknd:)
I thought Leconfield was still in use by the army? Is Leconfield to be disposed of then?
Another airfield bites the dust then, drive past this base quite often, wot a loss it will be, how many stations are now left that could be preserved?!
