A contrail is leaving a jet trail at flight altitude in the atmosphere. These tools are clouds composed of ice crystals. Shape and duration of existence depend on temperature and relative humidity at which the airplane is flying.

Fuel used jets is a hydrocarbon. When it is burned it emits carbon – carbon and water vapor as part of the chemical process. Gases are ejected from the plane beam formed warmly. The plane was flying at high altitudes where the temperature is lower than 40 degrees Celsius below zero. Sufficient beam spread very little before it freezes and becomes a cloud of icy crystals. This is a strip beam condensation.
