With the Russians no longer supplying spares and claiming to have done away with all blueprints, any more reverse engineering by the technicians at the Bareilly airbase is plainly uneconomical.

Wing. Co. Jayapal Patil: “The Russians donโ€™t help us with spares or blueprints.”

WTF is up with that? I can understand the Russians being unable to supply spares because they are no longer manufactured. But I don’t believe the BS that they have also destroyed all their blueprints.

On future deals with them, I hope the GOI uses contract language that ensures a minimum level of product support for as long as India wishes to use the equipment.

How do drop tanks actually work anyhow??? Are there as I suspect, thin pipes from the fuselage / wing pylon which suck up the kerosene from the bottom of the tank??

And adding to this, are there any common rules that apply with regard to dropping (jettisoning) drop tanks when they run dry?

When I lived in India in the 80’s, I used to see: MiG-21’s several times a year and AN-12’s almost every day.

Here in Canada, I see CF-18’s fly by my town about twice a year and I see Canadian P-3C’s (Aurora’s) at least once a week.

The insensitivity towards the pilots and their families shown by numerous postors on this thread is appalling. It is one thing to speculate wild theories when the chopper was MIA. After reading that the crew is dead and seeing that video, the least we can do is tone down the drivel and rhetoric.

    In the Air Force. Modern.

Which country do these Lightning’s belong to? I didn’t know anyone other than the RAF operated this type.

I think the PAF has more A2A missiles in their inventory than just the AIM-9P/L. Aren’t their Mirage III’s equipped with the Matra Magic-II missile? And what about added capability to field a wider variety of missiles on the “Rose” upgraded Mirage’s?

Going out on a limb here: A nuke armed Iran will be a threat not just to Israel and the so called “Great Satan”, it will also be a threat to closer neighbours like KSA and the UAE. These players have been strangely quiet throughout this whole brouhaha.

Isn’t it possible that the US, Nato and allies not get involved directly, but rattle these two countries enough with “intelligence” about Iranian nukes, that the KSA with their F-15’s and the UAE with their Mirage 2000-9’s and F-16 Blk-60’s do an Osirak on Iran, but on a larger scale.

Sealordlawrence: Let’s ignore all the smoke and mirrors being used by both Iran as well as the US camp. Iran, with its fossil fuel reserves will remain self sufficient for its energy requirements for centuries, even while exporting millions of barrels every year. Iran will not need nuclear energy for power generation for a very, very long time. Therefore, one can assume that the only reason Iran is really pursuing nuclear energy is for military purposes. A nuke armed Iran is not in the interests of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UAE, India and of course neither the US, Israel or Europe.

So, is it the French Air Force’s Mirage 2000C that the Indian -H and -TH variants share the most similar specifications with? BR’s aircraft specification page states that the InAF Mirages use the RDM radar. Does the -C have the same radar?
