Don’t forget to apply a particularly heavy final coat, so you get lots of realistic, saggy paint runs!

Then scratch the panel a bit and touch them in by hand, with a slightly different shade of black, for that authentic used look (same on all screw heads as MarkG points out).

And try to get your black paint onto the rims of the instruments as they poke through the panel, and a light (over) spray of cockpit green or silver here and there will add a nice finishing touch.

Then leave out in strong sunlight for several years, allowing dust to accumulate in every awkward corner, and the chances are you will achieve a proper finish that exactly matches the original before you decided to restore it! 😀

Some version of the Mk. II had variable pitch propellors on their Jacobs engines, hence the extra set of levers.

You are looking at the two throttle levers in the centre position, with mixture control levers outboard of each one.

The propellor pitch control levers are the lower left pair.

It looks like an Anson throttle pedestal to me.

Check the vendor’s location and apply some thought…;)

I think £100 for a R1155 is on the low side, personally.

I’d expect £125-£200, dependant upon condition, originality, model number, etc.

    I think you’d be looking at around £325-£350 for a good T1154.

    J switch – c.£75-£100.

Jones plugs (with jackets) – I’ve seen them go for £60 each on that site.

Bath tub morse key without cracks, chips, etc £40.

Trailing aerial winch – £100 minimum if complete.

Dayum, that lot at War And Peace is starting to look cheap – I shoud’ve had it!

With 1155s now reaching over £100 I hate to think what a ’54 will cost you… they are quite sought after by museums and collectors as with a ’55 and a bathtub key you have a ready made W/OP display.

A T1154, R1155 plus an assortment of Jones plugs, a J switch, bath tub morse key etc sold for £700.00 at the recent War And Peace Show.

Everything appeared to be in very nice order, and I think the price was about right.

I’m thinking of parting with my T1154, but I appear to have arrived too late!

Whirlwind 7 helicopter, according to my notes. Probably other Marks, too.

I’m only just back from War And Peace, aka Rain And Mud.

My thoughts on Brooklands? They might have attracted a bit more interest in the aerojumble if they’d advertised it! Where were the ads? (Not in Aeroplane Monthly, don’t know about Flypast).

I too found some very good stuff in the autojumble, but you have to be prepared to search for it – I’m always amused by people who glance quickly at a stall and dismiss its contents.

Overall though, I would have been slightly disappointed by the day if I had not been on the way down to Beltring anyway. There was some excellent stuff to be found there too, I’m spent up!

Any one know when and where the next aerojumble is in the UK?

I think it must be this one. Never been before but thinking about it:-

It seems like the airshow isn’t happening, but there will be a ‘jumble, fly-in and “small displays”.

Sounds ok, depending on the weather (and advertsing?).

    See you later!

A bit of a question for the Hawker experts out there. What is this device hanging from the lower starboard wing of the Afghan Hind? It is outboard of the bomb shackles and is only present on the starboard wing.

It’s a flare holder, for night landings.

I hope they’ve advertised it widely. There was no mention in this month’s Aeroplane Monthly. 🙁

I was going to suggest it was an air pump that would have pressurised the fuel tank

Which is what I would have typed if I had stopped to think before posting!

Can’t really make out too much detail, but fuel pump, maybe?

    Regarding the other Lancs:-

As the crews are driven out to the dispersals, you get a fairly good view of RT686 as AJ-M. It appears to have a similar patch/stain/widget, but also clearly has two sets of stencilled instructions, to either side of it. These are not apparent in your photo.

Later on, as the first wave taxies out, they pass another Lanc from a later wave. This is clearly positioned on a different dispersal as there are huts in the background, not apparent in the first sequence. The Lanc appears to be RT686, as the two stencils are clearly visible. However you cannot see any codes or serial. My guess is they re-positioned her after the first scenes were filmed. See photo marked “C”.

Here’s a view (photo “A”) of what is supposed to be the start up sequence for AJ-G. Although there are errors in the sequence which suggests there were at least two seperate “takes”, if you accept that the filming was done around NX679, then here is a clearer view of the stain/patch that JDK pointed out yesterday. Sort of a maple leaf shape. It appears to be identical to the one in your photo.

Now! Interestingly, later in the same sequence, an airman removes the chocks, giving a clear view of the rear fuselage of what is supposed to be AJ-G. (photo “B”). Although my snap isn’t brilliant, it’s clear in the screen that the serial has been disfigured, or eroded. It looks sort of like that on your photo. This re-inforces my opinion that the sequence of Gibson’s start up in AJ-G was filmed on two seperate occasions, since earlier in the scene, as they are about to enter the aeroplane, the serial ED932 is clearly visible.

It might just bear out my earlier thought about the flying scenes having quickly eroded the temporary markings?

As for the other scenes, well you do not get any view of what can be safely said to be NX673 as AJ-P. Most scenes involve crews entering at the starboard rear door (serials visible), or in the pilot’s seat, hence port nose view, and serials not visible.

I’m not too sure there are many other clues to be gleaned from the film. I saw some out-takes once, perhaps they hold more clues, or else the “book of the film”?
