because in the late 80’s there were 3 or 4 popular flights per week from GLA to ATH, 2, because Athens typically is the the gateway for independent tourists who self-construct, to visit the Greek Isles, and 3 – obviously for the Olympics. 🙂
Good input! But this is the early 2Ks and folk have more choices. I feel that Air Scotland might have planned their
business model on the late 80s. A model that might have worked if they had a strong High Street travel agent arm.
They don’t unfortunately. Folk want departures of their choice … the days of social-engineered airports are
over.:(
Need to get to EDI some time to take shots of the terminal….:(
I have tried to get diagrams of the finished taxiway with no success.
Here’s the proposed control tower.

AirHolland’s 763s last summer on such routes as ABZ-PMI! I’m unsure if they need that kind of capacity.
They needed it on EDI-PMI..in fact I wrote to them suggesting they used this long-haul aircraft at EDI-MCO/SFB …any long-haul because EDI was not subject
to over capacity in this field.
But surely if any airport was to expand they would realize that there would be a bigger demand for spotters so would buid the facilities for them.
Tell BAA Scotland Andrew… 😡 They have boasted
multi-million improvements at their Scottish Airports but it seems these ‘improvements’ have seen the elimination of spectator facilities.. 😡
He he he
Check my user title 😉
I,m honoured! Glad to see there are young men out
there willing to continue the crusade…
Can’t see myself still contributing to the ’cause’ after
70… Who am I kidding! 😀 😀 😀
Although, it even has the section of a fuselage at the cargo village that they must use for practising loading cargo into the aircraft. 😎
I think that ‘section’ is in fact a height gauge.? Used
during stand construction.? Anybody.? 😮
[QUOTE=RIPConcorde]With them only having one aircraft for their whole summer timetable I was worried this would happen. I can only presume it has gone tech as they cancelled all their flights yesterday and today they are running up HUGE delays! For example at EDI(I’m posting this at 17.35):
I fear for Air Scotland’s future. They were determined to contribute to the over-capacity on GLA sunshine routes.
OK, I’m being a tad biased, but basing a 235 seat 752
among the myriads already at GLA was asking for trouble.
Expecting to fill the same aircraft to Athens exclusively from GLA was also a mistake.
Charters have worked from GLA on the strength of High
Street Travel Agent arms..pax either took them or flew scheduled from other airports.
The locos stopped the GLA charter monopoly and folk found it cheaper to DIY from an airport of their choice.
Air Scotland desperately need back-up and more importantly they need to get away from the GLA over-capacity. IMHO
It’s good..my ill keep working on ym EDI and GLA SCENERY :p
Have you included EDI’s new tower – currently under construction – Matthew?
Yes that’s excellent! 😀
Anyone else care to comment…I’m not into FS.
There are no UK routes from Stuttgart by Germanwings yet, so if EDI gets one it’ll their first.;)
I doubt Germanwings would have withdrawn EDI last winter if they had the aircraft… they are still acquiring
so Stuttgart could be a possibility for 2005 😎
Joe what have you done to Bmused?! You’ve changed him into another you! :p 😉
I don’t think he needed much tuition. 😉
That was a bit harsh, Bmused55 – the poor chap only asked a question!
Blame me…I was bending his ear yesterday! 😮 😮
Yes, this is the second (or third) summer they have been at EDI, they operate 5 times weekly I think until the height of summer when it goes daily. However, for the first time this year the service is going year round and will operate this winter. It is one of Germanwings strongest routes from CGN.
And hopefully soon to befollowed by Stuttgart or Berlin..
unless someone beats them to Berlin.? 🙂
That’s becoming quite a regular at EDI! 🙂
Its their only logo jet I believe.? 😎
Nice pic, I’ve also seen that BBJ at EDI before.
This Germanwings Logo jet took off before Sandy arrived.
Just to let all know, I’m meeting up with Silver snapper at EDI airport today.
A very interesting meeting it was too..Thanks for your company and conversation Sandy..
Not much moving in the 45 minutes we chatted before
I got called-away..
Attached the B757 (G-BPEC)
Here’s a link to that BBJ we also saw
