It does´nt matter. LCA have finally flown with a Israeli radar!!!! The Parliament report says it will be OK in 2019 but let us start partying like it´s 1979 right know! (U now, when other western fighters developed MMR radars, 30 years ahead of LCA)

India’s announced to the world to be a new clear weapon state in 1998. And still they celebrated just like American who did the same 50 years before. Oh ya what change did it bring to the world isn’t? I guess your analogy could be taken to families too. Eve gave birth to child thousands of year before still the women today express their happiness and pride when they give birth to a child, shhhsh isn’t?

Indians have every right to celebrate at their achievements. It doesn’t require approval from anyone else.

I think the Indian idea of making low tech plane has shifted towards able to tranform the LCA into medium tech plane. You need to add power to achieve that. But I personally do not think that it is effective (cost-results) to do with this design. It is much smarter to go for low end PAK-FA or buying some more MRCA

How would a plane go from low tech to medium tech just by changing its engine unless there are a lot of change coming in the new electronics radar [ am a novice in these jargon’s] that are power hungry.

As per the information available on LCA mk2 I have not yet seen any news on these possible changes. Could you shed some info on it?

And the delay on the MMRCA is mostly the MOD’s fault…not IAF’s.

I don’t know whether it is a fault. You are to spend 10 billion dollars and when you made it clear that geo political outcomes would also have an impact on the final choice, I guess the delay itself would create enough space for accommodating strategic decisions, especially when there is a little great game again played in Afghan. Also it is a general accepted fact that Indian bureaucracy is marred with delays, so nobody have any complaints on it too.

Had we purchased the Mirage 2000 long before as the MRCA, this one option could not have been executed and the French alone is in no position to pull something for India in the current world.

Ya…he said the LSP3 will fly in August 2008. It is April 2010.When was this interview done, sometime in early 2008?..he said the trainer jet is “around the corner”. It came out in the end of 2009. This is what I am talking about…don’t give timelines you cannot meet. In any other industry you will get fired if you tell your customer you will get something in this timeline and then keep screwing up.

Relax dude, they know what they have to.

You make me remember about my childhood when all the teachers, my parents would just keep on saying about my low scores and say that I need to study well or will be taken out to some low school. One thing that they never said was “How to study well?”.

There is no point in keep on complaining unless you take ownership and lead the way. And if that is not going to happen just keep praying so that God would send someone who will lead.

Erkokite, no need to apologise-at least not on my part. 🙂 Considering China doesnt pose a strategic threat to France, enjoys good trade relations with France (maybe some1 could check this but i think the bilateral trade vol between the two is around 4-5 times larger than that between France & India), French offer is not for the cutting edge tech, & China is unlikely to be too much behind in terms of what France is offering to Pak, prolif risk didnt sound v plausible: though of coure we cant be absolutely certain without firm evidence.

But was all that well, remember the big issue between France and China over the Sarko-Dalai Lama meet. There was a hue and cry against French companies in China, a period in which the relations deteriorated a lot. I guess it was 2008.

Though the trade volume with China is very high for many a nation there is a general resentment against the Chinese in the economic circle. Though no government has made it a big issue due to the Chinese clout, it is simmering. Eagerly awaiting to see how the Yuan undervaluing issue comes out with the US.

Come on Teer…why give out timelines if you can’t hold them? Foot in the mouth disease is common in the DRDO they always keep claiming things they can’t deliver.

As we stand now..there is no radar on the LCA. Correct me if I am wrong, how can the LCA get IOC without a radar and will it get inducted in March 2011 without it?

http://www.drdo.org/dpi/ADA.pdf – P.S. Subramanyan Programme Director and Director, ADA

Here is your answer, wooops I got a surprise when I found the link is from DRDO site. He has answers for your question regarding the IOC

And you got the man to be fired, and that too with photo 😀 Just kidding

It strikes me as shady, if France denied Pak sale because they dont want industry in Pak to enhance itself, through limited ToT. Maybe thats why theres hate against China, because they are not content to just accept the product, but also be able to learn from it, build it and furthur enhance product. Japan got same hate when they were modernising.

Could it be that Pakistan required a full ToT and the price which the French asked for it is way too high? The Indian Mirage upgrade price even now looks scary.

If he was scared about it maybe he would have burned the midnight oil.

Speaking of the LCA..where is LSP3,they grandly announced that it would fly in 2008. It is now 2010 and still missing.

And what about the other person 😉

Well I guess time to fire :diablo: And whom did they fire, the PR department. :p

Anyway for spectators there is lot of tamasha, while there is time enjoy it.

I see. I think indeed we share common view. I was suprised that even after testing the decision makers went for import. Such a shame. It is disrespecting all those people that worked hard. It is disrespecting the tax payers. And you throw out your investment cause you throw away labour and spinoff products. And what will the import bring? They won’t use it against China (Himalaya) cause I doubt thy will go for huge tank war. Neither will they have significant new advantage in western front cause they have already bigger number and better quality in everything.

Politics is an interesting game where each player needs to stay relevant to have power. If there is only one choice available, would the procurement team have any power as the decision on choice is already made. If there are no imports would the foreign diplomats and middlemen have any power. If the desi designers product does not go through the procurement would they have any power.

Politics is not about ultimate truth, it is always about I am right and you are wrong. Now we were in an era were the procurement and foreign interlocutors had the entire power. We are in an era where the desi makers are trying to get a foothold. The tussle would go on and eventually reach the right balance. But problem for us all posting the message is that we seek ultimate truth or we are just spectators and want to be relevant.

We all want to see the change that we seek to happen in our lifetime itself, but only the tussle will decide when that day would come and not us.

This attitude IMHO is wrong..and this is the bane of Indian government organizations. No one pays the price when programs run for ever and ever. where are the firing?. No private company will ever have this type of work ethic. Even the US government just fired the head of the F-35 program for cost over runs.Have you ever seen anyone ever fired in Indian defense programs?

Dude, its not an attitude problem, in a mature industry if there are cost overruns or delays you can fire someone. In a nascent industry when you fire someone whom do you replace him with.

Would you wanna fire the Chief designer of LCA for its delay. Would you have fired Abdul Kalam for delays in IGMDP.

Also have you ever seen projects going off track in private industries because the management guy always looked at timeline and cost without a hinge idea the technical difficulties that might have aroused and which could not be cleared immediately. Such pressures can lead to overlooking many safety parameters in an urge to complete within the time and cost leading to future issues. LCA is a first, I would definitely prefer leniency on it, but a future aircraft for similar generation it should be your way.

When MMRCA was announced initially I hope people remember the then state of LCA. Now we have an Mk1 reaching its IOC, but then it was all like murky water with just active blame games. Or those who think about only about the current state of LCA must also recommend IAF to get an Oracle to for see the future, That way IAF could have seen the LCA-2010 in 2001.

MMRCA itself would take away a lot of unnecessary pressure from the ADA. Even if they take extra time it would not affect the IAF operations, and there focus would now be to get the right thing right. This is not about one aircraft but many a fighters that need to be designed and build in the future.

Russian/French/British/Indian/(American/Swedish If MRCA chosen) jets at the same time?

Well, we could promote India as a one stop spot for all fighter evaluation for countries interested in a purchase or for Aliens to analyse the strength of human war fighters…..Just kidding.:D

But I guess the attitude has its advantage too. A real view into both the design methodology would definitely help in picking the goods from both sides and create a fusion of the best.

India should be able to manage it, atleast will have one half of the fleet working at any time, western or the Russians and what is not more manageable than the Parliament [Loksabha] :diablo:

This is my point, as I have shown in past, PAF kept integration of French targeting pods on F-16s secret for over 10 years. If ACM states it has BVR capability but does not want us to know what type of BVR capability that is, we may not see pictures of it for a long time.

Yes, which is why I had mentioned that the configurations are already known as have already been available on the web. So I did not expect anything new to come up. The proposed Western avionics for J-17 is also well advertised on the web.
