Why is the Dornier now on the front burner? it’s been there a while hasn’t it? is it now in further danger of being lost for some reason? If so I can understand not completing something to get out, but not if it’s safe where it’s laid for what 65 years?
Eclectic? You should see what they have in the hangars there! 🙂
Is that schellville?
Pete you said the Griffon and Meteor are the same capacity? Surly the Griffon is 37Ltr and the Meteor 27Ltr
Just thought about it some more you meant the same capacity as the R engine my bad…………
where did they get that prop-shaft from? Morris minor?
Wasn’t sure whether to put this here or on How low can you go!

A man in genuine awe of what he had just experienced! a deserving man of the flight I would say. I felt the same way after my 1st flight in a P51, speechless and full of words at the same time!!
I just read the accident report after seeing the last post, what a ****-up! they didn’t say who last did the flow checks on the carbs was anything done to find out or at least check all other operators carbs?
Thank you! my answer in less than a few Min’s!
I would have thought there was plenty of metal in a wooden airframe to tempt a scrappy? don’t forget in the old days they would have just set fire to it to burn off the wood and then recover the metal?
Probably not the place for this but with the Rolls-Royce spitfire now airborne just how many are actually flying nowadays? not fit to fly but actually flying on a regular basis?
I enjoyed my trip to Reno in 98 and hope to visit again one day.
Hope everyone has a safe race.
BTW is Rare Bear still flying?
Um it’s in the first post!! Rare bear #2 on the list………………
How on earth was he using the controls of the upper airplane and the engines of the lower? he must have some LONG arms!!
Why Oh why do we have to have this argument EVERY time a rebuild starts? Nobody knows at this time what is usable and what is not so why start the unanswerable debate? Just be happy that someone has the balls to even start!!
How and what did it attach to? those three tabs look a bit flimsy to be the attach points? or were these static covers? which seems unlikely as the prop would have to come off to fit them?
Well, well – makes complete sense now, and also explains the lack of recoil from the gun (though the bang, flash and smoke cloud had to be experienced to be believed!).
I shall file that under “another sexy use of old technology”.
Thanks!
Adrian
The lack of recoil (should be felt recoil) is because as stated black powder burns at a controlled rate it doesn’t explode as such, so what you get from the firing in a black powder rifle is a heavy push rather than a Jolt from say a .308 Nato round which does have the proverbial kick!!
