But if he’s out past the point of the breaking waves he’s legal. and as long as he’s not over the pier at 500ft he’s legal as well. Santa Monica is a very anti aircraft city thet are still trying to shut the Santa Monica airport. I would treat this story with a huge pinch of salt if I were you! be interesting to see what the FAA report said not just the city of Santa Monica’s spokesperson.

PS. I’ve been a backseater in a P51 doing exactly the same thing from John Wayne to Santa Monica silly? Maybe but damn good fun looking up at the fishermen on longbeach harbour’s outer walls……………….

I seem to recall from some books of the period that the 2BA spanner was a vital tool for any Merlin engine fitter.

    Moggy

Don’t know about Merlins but as a Rolls-Royce car mechanic for over 40 years A 2BA is THE most important spanner! I still have my Original RR one issued to me as an apprentice………………………

PS. That is until BMW got there grubby ‘ands on it…………….

wow very nice on all accounts! I agree the great unwashed public do take some looking after but do reconsider the ropes and barriers thing! It just looks so much better without ropes and barrriers in the way! as you say it needs someone there at all times though and thats a pain.

I have a car restoration shop at Infineon Raceway CA and you should try being here on NASCAR week, I stepped out for a minute and when I came back there were people sitting in cars having there pictures Taken! even one in an E-Type tub up on stands…………..Rednecks………….

Well at least she looks cared for to the best of somebodys ability.
I keep hearing disparaging remarks about the owners of some of these aircraft not doing the best for them? but at least they are saved? otherwise they would have been pot’s and pan’s by now, so please give a thought before making these remarks nobody knows what the circumstances surround these aircraft except the owners.

On another small rant, outdoor storage? I don’t recall the RAF keeping these aircraft nicely tucked up in hangers when they were in service? so surly as long as they have the covers on they should be OK for while? better off in a hanger maybe but better outside than melted down?

I’ve emailed for pictures with no result? I would be a bit wary as he hasn’t any feedback related to these engines at all……………
