Piotr Unicornski at it again. 🙂 Lots of excellent nuggets of info;

So i was correct on the stinger housing Himalaya related equipment, i was wrong on suspecting it was not a radar. It is a radar, but it does ECM tasks for Himalaya system.
Why does that article use the Rafale purchases as a defence for “doubts from India” in regards to the FGFA? The MMRCA was also running parallel to the FGFA and had nothing to do with it. If anything, the small number purchased and news from India that no more will be brought plays into favour other aircraft projects that are under way from the Indian Air Force like the FGFA.
…….
Always thought the SMT hump was too oversized, but it started to grow on me lately. There is something about its ungainliness that’s becoming cool (kinda like the MiG-21SMT). At least it doesn’t come with that oversized “unified” two-seater canopy of the MiG-29M2 and 35.
No way. I’ll take the larger canopy over they hump back any day. At the very least it improves reward visibility and isn’t an eye sore at all. Definitely a better looker the a MiG-29UB and more functional.
Just with the MiG-35 and RVV-BD been integrated.
I believe that the rumour started because of this bit of advertising that was shown at one of the MAKS airshows.

I agree with most here that the RVV-BD doesn’t really suit the MiG-35’s role and wont do much good if they can’t get enough power out of the AESA radar.
Then again, Russian love to integrate all types of weapons on their aircraft. Probably to increase their export potential and to be able to preform roles in extreme circumstances when other aircraft aren’t available. So I wouldn’t put it pass them.
Sheytan, any news on Iraq’s possible MiG-29 acquisition?
Naturally the priorities have probably shifted given the situation in the country at the moment, but if the Egyptian MiG-29 deal goes through, might be a good time to follow up.
There was a Iraq news article a few weeks ago that stated that Iraq was looking to get the MiG-35 and also the MiG-31. I’m a bit skeptical of it because it mentions the MiG-31 which I really don’t see any logical reason for but maybe it because of the positive service history the MiG-25 had in the IRAF.
The MiG-35 has been mentioned a few times in the past so my guess it’ll happen at some point. We’ll probably wont hear about as Iraq MOD seem to have become quite secretive about arms deals with Russia.
It they are really getting the MiG-35 and not the MiG-29M we’ll probably have to wait till after the RuAF MiG-35 deal goes through. Right now MiG is working on R&D for meeting Russian air force requirements for the aircraft.
I’ve also been reading in a few other forums that the MiG-35 is till have trouble with its ASEA radar mainly because it leaks the power for the T/R Modules so it can’t get the max range of 200-250KM that they originally were hoping for.
Looks like another Fulcrum Operator is going to get the Ugly Hump back. Good to hear they are keeping them around.
So what does this mean for the MRCA?
Well drop tanks and some AIM-9s at the very least
Possibly a downed Saudi F-15.
Militaryphotos.net is down, any replacement to this one for Russian MPs?
ooh what’s that? New ECM POD?
Could just being used as a chase plane.
I think it’s just a matter of time before Russia ends sanctions on Iran. Really can’t see the Iranians going for anything else.
Not Russian but UN sanctions that have stopping the sell of weapons. So until they are lifted you wont see any combat aircraft sales. Interesting to note that air defences are not cover by them so that why the news about russia going a head with the S-300 delivery after the nuclear framework agreement.
The first 30 would most likely be Zhuk-M as the designer mentioned recently , the later ones will come with new AESA and RD-33MKM
Its a bit disappointing that it has taking so long to mature the ASEA on the MiG-35. It been in the works since 2007. I’m guessing it been a question of funding which they have now.
So with R&D being funded by the RuAF finally what requirements do you think they’ll have for the MiG-35?
I’m guessing we’ll see an ASEA radar, the new targets Pod and possibly new weapons that are being developed for the PAK-FA integrated.
Do you think they’ll be any airframe changes or will they stick with the 9.41 frame to keep costs low.
Also speaking of MiG-35 looks like they are testing something new in the pods below the engine nacelles again. Any idea what these ones might be?

Sana’s Airport looks intact despite the bombing and the runway was hardly damaged !.

Possible reasoning for it.
