A few further pictures of the Bearcat display today along with another of the Sea Fury flypast. Not covered by the pictures in todays posting was the arrival around 1930 hours of the ‘desert’ Buchon G-AWHE.
Duxford – Tuesday 2nd July.
Signs this morning that Flying Legends is fast approaching found the TFC Bearcat firing up for the first time for many months.
Whilst departing (temporarily at least) was the ‘old’ nose of Blenheim G-BPIV . Clues as to its destination are probably in the 2nd picture. That Museums website indicates they are holding a War Effort Exhibition about Britains Motor Industry contribution to WW2 from the 12/7/13 until 5/1/2014. Two Blenheims ? seem to feature in the advertising artwork.
Further to DCWs report of todays DX activity a few further pictures from me of the Nimrod
Duxford – Wednesday June 26th.
Todays main activity featured a late afternoon fantastic two ship aerobatic display by the ARCo based Buchon and the OFMC Spitfire. Unfortunately I was at home at the time but even from a distance it was dramatic. Below the best I could do!!
The Spitfire seen earlier awaiting its turn.
At the Eastern end of the airfield the Silver T.28 was undergoing engine runs.
–and the long dormant L.39 shows it is now apparently being worked on.
A visiting aircraft noted was the US Army scheme Navion.
–whilst doing circuits again was the based Harvard G-BUKY
A few further pictures from North Weald today 23/6/13.
Sea Fury G-RNHF was active again with some synchronized marshalling
– and subsequently departing back to Yeovilton
The Dutch B.25 dropped in en route back to Holland from Manston ( Picture just needs a Photoshop Banana expert !!!)
Its departure was as spectacular as it looks here !
Duxford Wednesday 19th June.
Departing this morning was the ‘desert’ Buchon back to Humberside but taking its place and making a welcome return for the first time in 2013 was Spitfire XVI TD248.Seen landing below after an arrival practice display..
Curtiss Hawk H-75?
Ben – Yes indeed. I understand parts of it least were incorporated into the rebuild of the TFC Hawk 75 G-CCVH
Duxford Tuesday 11th June 2013.
A report on todays activity will no doubt follow later but meanwhile below is picture of an airframe /wreck that was noted in H2 at Duxford back in November 2002 and which I filed away without properly identifying at the time. Apologies in advance for the not very good angle. The mystery was ‘solved’ today put can anyone else identify the type and speculate where it(or parts thereof) might be now !!!
Brian– Heres the other Tiger Moth departing late afternoon.
— with an accompanying Cessna.
Otherwise the Beaver was being returned to H2 – nice and clean again.
Duxford 4th June 2013. After the last few days extensive filming activity there were signs today of the airfield returning to normal. By late afternoon virtually all the access restrictions had been lifted and most of the filming vehicles and equipment had departed. The Aces High C-47 remains as do the 2 Tiger Moths. Spitfire IX MH434 is back to its normal paint scheme as are the ARCo Beaver and Buchon. Much of todays activity focussed on flying by Duxfords based aircraft with flights by the ARCo TR9 and Harvard, the Desert Buchon,Stearman and the HAC Hurricane. A few pictures below to illustrate.
—and still present in H2 North
DX Saturday 1/6/13
Not so much airside activity at Duxford today in connection with the current filming but plenty of comings and goings of connected aircraft.
Arriving this afternoon was Spitfire MK912 from Biggin Hill complete with invasion stripes on the fuselage.
Also connected with the filming was the arrival of 2 Tiger Moths one of which was already hidden away amongst the bales of hay in a ‘barn’ when I arrived. The other was in the process of being moved hangarside for film work presumably
The ‘Israeli’ Buchon was flying again
== and the Beaver was showing signs of activity although not seen flying.
Away from film related activity the BBMF Chipmunk WK518 was finally going home having been collected by its compatriot.
