G-LFIX (Duxford) departed Duxford for a display overhead near Colchester, and at this time is currently on it’s way back. Has anyone managed to get a picture of it today? 😀

    Regards,
    Jason Moore

Jason – Not out of Duxford today. Only warbird flying from DX this morning/early afternoon was the BBMF Hurricane and G-KAMY T.6

DX 4/4/13- With temperatures just above freezing and a wind chill factor feeling like 10 degrees below that it was not a day to hang about – noted during a 5 minute visit late morning —

Another Catalina is she there long? Or just passing through?

Two catalina’s would be a sight.

    Curlyboy

To clarify the point from the earlier posting those pictures were of course taken 9 years ago and she became G-PBYA.

They’re too busy looking for Duxford’s Nora Batty….

Fortunately she chased us away so we retired to the Cafe just in time for some pictures.

Below a few further shots from this morning.

Great shots there in post 647. Makes you wonder what other rare photo’s are lurking around that haven’t seen the light of day since they were taken.

    Thanks for sharing them.

Undoubtedly – No guesses about these 2 from 1989 ??

Just oil drums and chain/rope – CAA would not approve now!

Diamond Lil visit was 1992 if I recall – heavily delayed en-route with engine issues. The plan was to base at Norwich for a while, then at Duxford for a couple of weeks. In the end, I saw her at IAT but I don’t recall her spending very much time at Dux at all.

I may be wrong but I don’t think ‘Diamond Lil’ ever made it to DX because of the delays caused by her continued engine problems whilst at Biggin Hill.

Back to N94459 here are 2 pictures taken at Duxford on 2/11/73 just a couple of days after her arrival.

Duxford Thursday 14th March. Almost a nice Springlike sunny day for a change but a late arrival meant that I missed taxy and compass check shots of the BBMF Hurricane !! Seen below at lunchtime however.

The HAC Hurricane was about to be refuelled but later took to the air for an airtest and practice display. Assume it may depart to Northolt later for their evening photoshoot in place of Spitfire 5 BM597.

    G-HURI

Elsewhere on the airfield a few other current inmates were outside in the sun.

    according to this

“On 25th August 1975 KH401 now “Delectable Doris” was given a rousing send-off from Duxford; being escorted to Stansted, its first stop, by a Hurricane, 2 Spitfires and a Lancaster of the “Battle of Britain” Flight. From Stansted the Liberator flew to Prestwick where it suffered an undercarriage collapse which was duly repaired and then on its way via Keflavik in Iceland to the U.S.A.”

Thats exactly the details we were looking for to explain the BBMF presence at DX on an apparent non airshow day.
