Now a question for all you sleuths or have memories of 1975 !! Below is a picture taken in 1975 of David Tallichets B.24 N94559 that was present at Duxford from October 1973 until finally departing to the USA in August 1975. The question is where was this photograph taken ? It would certainly be 1975 as ‘SallyB ‘ is parked behind it and that didn’t arrive until 16/3/75 and wasn’t painted as such until around May 1975. Bearing in mind the buildings on view in the background if this was Duxford what location on the airfield was it ? Did the B.24 make any visits away from Duxford before leaving for the USA ??
To answer part of my own query below is a picture of ‘Sally B’ doing a flypast along runway 24 in July 1975. Out of focus in the bottom right hand corner is the building seen in the background of the B.24 shot. Notice in the picture the absence of AirSpace,Hanger 2 and the M11 with the public visitor reception building behind the T.29 Convair and Rapide.

AND are poorer b/w shot of her before the ‘rescue teams’ arrived.
These are great images – but I’m stumped by the location of Duxman’s Liberator photo! I don’t recognise those buildings at all. I wondered if the aircraft were parked on one of the fighter hardstandings at the west end (now largely lost under AAM etc) but I still can’t place the buildings shown!
DCW’s images are much more recognisably Duxford, with the aircraft parked (I think!) on the ASP out near the current airside fence at the eastern end – sort of near where the JU-52 has been recently.
We are currently thinking along the lines this might be a view looking basically NE across the area where H2 and Airspace is now. In 1975 the M11 was not built so the land is open looking towards the village of Whittlesford. On the road leading to Whittlesford village now the otherside of the M11 there was until recently a similar building. We still cannot work out what this event was however ?

Wrong Fury
Well spotted (just testing ?)- Posting updated !
Duxford – Wednesday 6th March. Not much to report today although The Spitfire 1 in H5 shows more signs of being dismantled ?
So — at the request of some of the guys in Hanger 2 (S) here are some shots of the then OFMC Hawker Fury FB10 sporting short term German colours in the early months of 1994. First noted hangered on the 9th January she was out and about in February but was being returned to her previous scheme by the end of March.Presumably for a film role but no doubt someone will provide a more difinitive answer !
Whilst on the subject of this Fury some pictures of her other colours worn at DX.
October 1991
April 1993
November 1998
and May 1999
And – 10 years ago this week the OFMC P.40E had just returned from some filming (believed to be in Ireland) and was noted outside H3 with her German scheme being washed off.
According to guys on UKAR the F-86 Sabre has been on an airtest today and flew up to RAF Coningsby!
Yes indeed – She took off around 2.45pm for her first flight for some 18 months returning after about 45 minutes. She has just got airborne again.
Below a sequence of pictures covering the first flight this afternoon.
Another anniversary for DX today as 20 years ago on the 18/2/1993 Canberra TT18 WJ680 / G-BURM flew into Duxford. It had made its last flight with the RAF on 18/12/91 at RAF Wyton and then was was sold privately. It is seen below being pushed into Hanger 2N at DX for local work to be carried out.
I have no record of a departure date but it made an appearance back at Duxford for a display in 2002 carrying its civil registration as seen below on the 4/5/02. It departed the UK 6 days later on 10/5 for Australia where it arrived on 17/5 to join the Temora Aviation Museum and is still active with them I believe carrying markings A84-234 and civil registration VH-ZSQ.
