Here’s Ballerina at one of her first events, Wethersfield 19-5-62:
Photo from Tony Clarke Collection.
And here is a colour picture of the original Ballerina at Wethersfield that day from my collection (although photographer unknown)
And a further picture of her at Redhill in 1965
Another of the 3 real Cosmic Winds to appear in the UK was G-AYRJ / N20C seen here at Reno in the 1960s
and then at Sywell in July 1975 at one of the early PFA Rallys.
In 1975 at Sywell the other UK registered Cosmic Wind G-BAER reportedly built partly from components of the original G-ARUL.
David, good retrospective about TFC/HAC Hurricane.
I’m wondering of you could do the same for TFC’s P-40M which is now with H11?
Other P-40’s are welcome too :diablo:.
We are currently working on your request re the P.40M but meanwhile and by coincidence today marks a Duxford anniversary for another of the present H11 warbirds, namely Spitfire P.R.XI PL965.
20 years ago on the 2/2/1993 I have it recorded she arrived at DX for operation by OFMC after having been rebuilt at Rochester and made her first post restoration flight there on the 23/12/92 in the hands of the late Mark Hanna. She would remain operated from DX on behalf of her owner until early 1997 when she was sold to new owners at Breighton.
Painted initially in a USAF colourscheme she is seen below at DX in July 1973.
Like most OFMC aircraft she wore a variety of colours and by February 1994 she was in an RAF scheme.
By May 1994 she had acquired invasion stripes with a Norwegian flag and the name- ‘Silje’
In the summer of 1995 she gained some temporary marks as WO-F whilst being used in the TV series – ‘Over Here’. Seen below is a poor picture whilst taxying at DX.
I will be there next month for a good tour of every hangar – any idea when 5 re-opens?
I suspect it is only shut for part of today.
This must be the first time a “Duxford Diary” has dropped off of the front page!
Better do something about that. In the absence of the “real” photographers, here’s a couple of the corrugated ugly plane from yesterday morning around 8am. Bit on the dark side at that time, hence the flash.
DX 23/1/13 — Were back !! – With most of the main DX site open to the public again today, a quick check of the hangers found little had changed since our last reports. Hanger 5 was unfortunately still closed (‘for maintenance’) so no update on the Spitfire 1 was possible.
In Aerospace the DH9 has been temporarily moved into the front section.
This left a virtually unobstructed view of the Comet .
