Just to echo the thoughts of all others who have contributed and enjoyed this thread over the past year both in the UK and worldwide. Living locally to DX for past ???? years has its benefits particularly when one can get ones daily exercise at what is a unique active museum airfield and meet up with fellow enthusiasts and invariable see some form of aircraft activity. Thanks therefore to DCW for all his efforts, hardwork and research and of course his company on many visits during the year.
The last day of the year rarely sees much activity and today looks to be no different with rain and windy conditions. 20 years ago today however saw what is believed to be the first visit to Duxford of one its more familiar warbirds – Spitfire XVIe TD248 / G-OXVI. Its restoration was completed at Audley End by Historic Flying for Eddie Coventry and it made its first flight on the 10/11/92 proceeding to Cambridge where it was based until at least mid February 1993.
Seen here landing at Cambridge on 10/11/92 after its first flight. The writer just happened to be present at the time !!
Then on the 31/12/1992 it has heard routing into DX from Cambridge and was captured there in somewhat gloomy winter conditions.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year which undoubtedly promises more activity and surprises.
See you at– Duxford 2013

Fantastic pictures from a time gone by. The Javelin was Jeff Hawke’s as was the Meteor stored with it, F4 VT229. The Javelin did indeed go to a better life at Flixton. The Meteor was loaned to Newark where it was placed in their Meteor line-up. Later sold to Kermit Weeks it is at Polk City, Florida in store. That Amiot does look like a Ju52 3m doesn’t it…;)
A couple of pictures of the aircraft in question below taken May/June 1976.
DX – Tuesday 18th December.
In Hanger 5 the ‘ex’ Lambeth Spitfire 1 R6915 was noted to be exposing itself a bit further with the protective cockpit ‘bandage’ now removed.
Meanwhile out on the airfield the ARCo Spitfire Tr9 spent a few hours away from DX(no pics) returning early afternoon.
The HAC Nimrod was also seeing some action with a an engine run.
— with a consequent hanger shuffle.
four Spitfire 1s? I thought one was at Biggin Hill?
They should leave her alone, and keep the cockpit open so you can actually see in her. Personally I dislike hanging a/c up, if there was somebody with a connection to the a/c visiting it would be impossible to view the interior to get an idea of where your relative sat, felt emotion etc. Like when I bought an Raf great coat and was sitting on Grantham Station thinking this is the very view my WAAF grandma had, waiting for the same train, quite an odd feeling…
Yes – 4 (we know about) N3200,R6915, P9374 and AR213.
DX Saturday – 1/12/12
Noted arriving mid afternoon was Spitfire TR9 G-ILDA / SM520
DX Thursday 22/11/12 – Only noticeable movement (since last weekend ?) on the airfield today was that the L.39 G-CCWB which had been stored over on the South side of the airfield had been moved Northside to ARCo hanger area near the M11.
