What, those nations aren’t organized enough to maintain control over their own citizenry?

Not only would I hold each nation accountable, but I’d repeal the Laws of Armed Conflict and resign from the Geneva Convention. It’s time to fight the war on the same level as the enemy.

    Nice sidestep…

    Again, what nations?

You lot are already ignoring the Geneva convention, you know the bit about prisoners of war are not to be used for publicity.

Which relies on the hefty assumption that the Iranian leadership and those with access to future nuclear weapons are perfectly sane. It also neglects the importance of the presence on this strip of arid dirt of many places and buildings deemed “holy” by Islam’s finest. I would not consider the word “holy” to be even remotely related to sanity.

    Uh, I don’t wholly follow you…?

One one hand you say the Iranian leadership might be insane, and thus consider nuking Israel, yet on the other you say they won’t as they have holy sites on Israel.

Tell me, what is your definition of sanity then anyway? Is it only available to western leaders? Or leaders that appeal to western powers?

Millions (for those of you without grammar skills, that’s at least 2,000,000) of civillians have died in Iraq? Where are you people getting all this from? Millions. That’s hilarious.

Irregardless of his exaggeration, undoubtedly thousands, probably tens of thousands of innocents have died as a result of the invasion.

Personally I’d declare war and bomb the capitals of every nation sending people to Iraq. They are committing acts of war, right?

    Eh?

Who is sending people to Iraq?

(apart from ‘the coalition of the willing’ or whatever they’re called)

Also, are you serious about declaring war on a bunch of countries for the individual actions of their citizens? I’d like to think not.

I am of the opinion that MAD is a rather good method of keeping peace,as neither county would be willing to make the first move knowing the consequences awaiting.

    I agree 100%.

If there had been no nuclear weapons, does anyone else not think the cold war would have turned ‘hot’ at some stage (and I don’t mean peripherals like Vietnam or Korea).

Yes, Britian is different. You don’t hear the British PM saying he would wipe another countries off the map.

And do you honestly think they will nuke Jerusalem, considering that it is just as much a shrine to them as it is to the Jews or to Christians?

The guy has a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, so, I think his IQ is more than 98 ^_^

    pffttt…. knuckle dragging mechanical engineers…

    If he has a double digit IQ…. 😉 :p 😀 😀

I suppose it could be worse…. could be a degree in civil engineering! :diablo:

Well, if what they say about long wavelength radar is true…

You could saturate the flightpath with fighters and hopefully get close enough to get an airborne radar return and shoot it down…

But where would the F-22s be at this time? Again, if the low frequency radar does what many suspect/say, then you could time your saturation to avoid the F-22s…

As for the B-1s, well, they should be within the capabilities of SAMs… if they haven’t been HARM’d by then (but I’ve heard the HARM missile was a disaster in the balkans???)

The answer would really depend greatly on what you have at your disposal to be honest… if they had a few S-300s… well, changes things somewhat doesn’t it.

Is there SOLID prove Iran wants nuclear weapons? Or is it another propaganda attempt by the US?

Good question, but to be honest, if they had accepted Russia’s offer of processing the material in Russia and shipping it to Iran it would have made things alot clearer. 🙁

    – Depends how you define ‘superpower’, if you want life on earth wiped out one morning, I’m quite sure the Russians, Brits or French would have enough weapons to get the job pretty well done.

    – If the US ‘flattened’ Iran as you put it, where would all that oil come from? Russia and China have major energy agreements with Iran, and would look extremely unfavourably on such an act.

    – Why would Iran want nuclear weapons? Compare the amount of times a nuclear power has been attacked compared to the amount of times a non-nuclear power has been attacked 😉

    – I agree with your sentiments that by and by large, nuclear weapons are just too perfect, thats why everyone is afraid to use them, they are scared of the retaliation from the other guy. Its a weapon that is so good everyone won’t use it.

    – To be honest, from what I see, the US DoD has its hands full with Iraq at the moment, and will not be keen on going into Iran which would only be 10 times worse. Once bitten twice shy and all that 🙂

Strange thing is, from whats on this thread, the helo would appear to have been conducting a patrol alone – surely thats a little weird?

Strength in numbers and all that?

SDBs and JDAMs have autopilots that can be programmed to fly a profile. The end point of the profile is the target’s coordinates.

Inertial or GPS guidance I assume?

They can program the flight for a wee thing like that?? wow!

How do they target the things anyway?
