DSI is a significant breakthrough. I know you are jealous because your country Russia doesn’t have DSI.
Are you seriously suggesting that Russia is so backward in CFD that it cannot develop DSI if it wanted to ?! 😀
Apparently DSI makes everything else irrelevant.
yes I noticed how many times he mentioned that the JF-17 was the first aircraft to get DSI even though it was on the F-16 and the F-35 prototype earlier.
One must say, it is the one feature on the JF-17 that no other production aircraft have as yet and he obviously feels very proud about that. Whether it means so much in practice is quite another matter. It is no doubt useful, but not THAT useful, else LM would’ve been offering it as part of upgrades to customers and also would’ve had it on the F-16 Block 60, F-16IN and the new F-16V.
Back to the topic, while Rafale and F-16 Block 52+ clearly outmatch J-10 Generation Uno, clearly J-10 Generation Zwei is at least a match for either of them in terms of avionics and clearly superior to both of them in terms of airframe design.
J-10B superior to the F-16 Block 52+ and Rafale ? And you say that with a record of staunch neutrality and zero bias, do you? 😀
Why doesn’t F-16 use DSI like J-10 does? DSI cuts weight, increases interior space, increases air flow to the engine, cuts RCS, cuts complexity, cuts production costs, and looks better. As far as I know, only AVIC and Lockheed Martin have DSI technology.
They didn’t assess the advantages as being worth the trouble I suppose. Lockheed Martin are the ones who invented DSI after all.
The leak was not the report, it was actively selected parts(to make gripen look bad) of the first report(C/D).
the summary report also showed that the Gripen C/D or even the NG was behind the Rafale in all areas. Point out which areas in which it was ahead of the Rafale and then we can continue this discussion further.
Maybe you should fly it, afterall even you can eject easily and flying is such an easy job and from your posts, it seems you know much better than those worthless(idiots) engineers at HAL and CEMILAC.
he doesn’t know anything compared to the HAL and CEMILAC guys. His field isn’t even remotely related to aviation. But, he does happen to be critical of HAL and bureaucracy as well as the LCA. and sometimes the criticism is valid too. Sometimes its just ignorant BS.
In case you managed to miss it, the Swiss evaluated the old gripen,
The JAS-39NG reportedly ranked 1st in the FAB’s technical trials(meaning Rafale was rated below Gripen NG)
http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/brazil-embarking-upon-f-x2-fighter-program-04179/
Did Brazil fly the Gripen NG or Gripen Demo? Did they do a thorough evaluation like Switzerland or India?
If not, how on earth did they rank the still undefined Gripen NG above an in-service Rafale F3?
Wow, CPFH is now up at $7000 !
assuming 200 h per a/c and year that is 1.4 million dollar pissed away per a/c !!http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?84527-Gripen-News-Thread/page219
Did USD go down lately or fuel up ??
Is that taking into account the salaries of the persons involved in maintaing it or are they still conscripts?
A more than doubling of the CPFH seems be put it past just fuel price increases which are anyway never stable. This may be nearer the actual figure now, the $3000 per flight hour seemed too low to begin with.
Huhu … there’s NO deal, China does not want the Su-35S !!!! … it has already been denied ! see: http://forum.keypublishing.com/showpost.php?p=1866516&postcount=649

The english article that you posted simply said that the deal was not near, not that the Chinese are not interested in the Su-35S.
Man i think this deal is going to happend.
What is good for both Russia and India is that this is not going to happend anytime soon, which gives Pak-Fa/FGFA much better time to get in the game.
Firstly the 48 Su-35S for VVS, and then there might be a follow-up order or perhaps India also decide to order Su-35.. or perhaps not.. LoL, lots of stuff can happend here!:D
umm, eighter way, pretty much a win-win situation for Russia and Sukhoi..;)
Depends on how they manage the legal terms of the deal..China may order 48 and then lo and behold the J-11 clones may end up being upgraded to the Su-35 standards with reverse engineered Su-35 technology.
That is the main reason why they’re looking for the Su-35 anyway, isn’t it? The J-11B isn’t up to par with the Su-30MKI even, so the Su-35 will be a big jump..they want the Irbis and the technology to allow them to lighten the airframe, as well as the 117S. The engine technology to be used for improving the WS-10 maybe?
The reasons for wanting just 48 Su-35s is quite obvious. Russians are surely fully aware of the dangers of this sale, and how this technology will find its way into designs that will compete with their fighters in the future.
LSP-7 completed its second High Speed Taxi Trial and will have its first flight any day now. Report from Ananth Krishan’s blog.
Tejas LSP7 to have its first flight soon
Bangalore: The first flight of the limited series production (LSP-7) version of India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is in a striking distance. Sources confirm to Express that the LSP-7 performed the crucial High-Speed Taxi Trial (HSTT) on Thursday in a nose-wheel-lift mode at about 260 kmph. A data analysis de-brief is scheduled on Friday (March 9) to check various parameters of the aircraft during the HSTT, which was the second one for LSP-7.
“If the results are absolutely encouraging, then we would have the first flight any time. The Flight Readiness Review Board has already cleared the aircraft for its maiden moment in the sky,” sources said. Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) officials at Old Bangalore Airport too confirmed that the activities relating to LSP-7 has reached a critical stage with all safety precautions put on an any-time-ready mode.
On Thursday, Grp Capt Venugopal of the National Flight Test Centre (NFTC) did the HSTT, which is a pointer that he might be the chosen one to take LSP-7 for the first flight. “It is a positive step to see more platforms joining the flight-line. We need more of them so that we can divide our tasks and put the programme on a faster pace,” a source with the Aircraft System Testing Establishment of the Indian Air Force (IAF) said.
The IAF pilots from ASTE would finally begin the evaluation once the LSP-7 is ready. “The Standard of Preparation (SOP) of this aircraft is made for user evaluation trials for both flight as well as maintenance, which is the same as the SOP of the production variant. Intensified campaign of flight trials is going on for demonstrating the performance of sensors and armaments,” HAL sources said.
With LSP-7, the 12th aircraft from the project flight-line would join the Tejas party with another (LSP-8) scheduled to be rolled out in future. Express had reported earlier about a fuel leak on LSP-7, which forced the Aeronautical Development Agency(ADA)-HAL combo to ground the entire fleet. This had pushed the programme further behind the schedule by four-five months — the time taken by designers and engineers in re-arranging the butting of fuel and hydraulic pipes to prevent them coming in contact.

Notice the change at the base of the fin- the inlet is now smoothened out with a small opening for the air intake..something I noticed on LCA models from AI-11 but attributed to just lack of attention to design on those models ! A drag reduction measure ? Compare it to the LSP-6
“The USA & USSR had nuclear weapons before the treaty, & are not bound by it to relinquish them, only to refrain from assisting other countries to obtain them. “
I just hope US didn’t break the law and assisted Israel in getting nukes then
Why ? Is it unheard of ? China assisted and gave the nuclear weapon design to Pakistan. That was illegal. And did anything happen to either one as a result in terms of penalties or sanctions ?
The treaty is worthless as the things stand because for some weird reason it’s not mandatory for every country.
Now we are looking at a situation where a country which didn’t even bother to sign NPT threatens to enforce another country to obey the same treaty. Isn’t it ironic?
Ah, you change your tune now !
First you say that Israel’s nukes are illegal which they aren’t since they never signed any NPT agreement in the first place..next you conveniently ignore the fact that it is Iran which is illegally developing nukes to make them seem like the victims in this case ! They aren’t- they weren’t forced to sign the NPT. They shouldn’t have if they wanted to develop nukes in the first place.
Whether you consider the NPT to be worthless or not is immaterial.
In two weeks Indian pilots successfully crashed two Mirages 2000. Is there something wrong with Mirages?
Both due to engine flameouts.
Aside from your obvious flame bait (which is noticed, don’t worry), the fact is that any air force and any pilot can suffer a flame out and all he can do is attempt relights and if it doesn’t work, then he has to eject. Even the mighty Air Force of your nation (if it even has one to speak of) will need to do the same.
Trident
You have hit the nail on the head.
There are aerospace journos, and there are aerospace journos.
Richard Aboulafia on Russian Military equipment and Asian airforces dont “mix very well”. There are a multitude of chaps on this forúm who are vastly more reliable than Aboulafia on these particular matters.
Precisely. the guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about and he shouldn’t be the one asked for his opinion on anything Asian or Russian.
