Thanks for the identification guys, I would never have guessed Jet when I first saw it. The details were passed to me because it was thought to be Typhoon…I knew it wasn’t but thought it may have been slightly later piston engined and possible late mark Spitfire. I have no history behind it but I am trying to find out more details.
Being a non-ejection seat model would this have made it a very early Vampire? I would have thought ejections seats were almost standard fit at that time…
Hi,
Thanks for showing those, I saw them on their facebook page. I would like to seem some closer pictures of the parts to see if there is anything else Typhoon. It is interesting to see the undercarriage leg as it looks like it has either been removed very carefully or it is a spare sent out. The pairs that I recently picked up for the project were NOS and have the aluminium nut with the split pin for the main wheel still in place and the main pin for the top of the leg….in theory it could still have the tag on it somewhere.
I wonder if this is perhaps a spare sent with the airframe or part of the request for replacement parts after the wheels up landing…
The radiator as far as I know is….sort of a shame as although it belongs to MN235 not many knew the one on her is not real!!! I have seen far worse rebuilt….
I hadn’t heard about those, that is interesting 🙂 I had heard something about some cowling being recovered but everytime I ring there is no-one there to take the call and no replies to mails unfortunately.
AHO5007…could well be Typhoon!!
Sorry…wasn’t able to take a picture at the time. Here are a couple (hope they attach correctly)….perhaps it will help.
Thanks for the encouragement…
Richard did (don’t know if he still does) have a Tempest MKV project that was registered. It had a cockpit section, fuselage (Typhoon that was diverted to the Tempest production line) and tail. I tried to get in contact with him as I have a large number of Tempest drawings which may have been useful and perhaps he had some unwanted parts. I had his mobile but unfortunately I was unable to get through…the tail of the Tempest is the same as later Typhoons. I have a couple of elevators so anything else would be very interesting.
I am as surprised as you Anthony….the bidding on the tail wheel unit is ridiculous at the moment. I am not aware of anyone else that would need one at present, the Tempest projects all have one as far as I know and there are no Typhoon projects that are going as far as me. I picked up 2 pairs of main undercarriage legs (NOS) for far less than the tail wheel at the moment. I am completely self financed and have to do this on the side at the moment…there have been other tail wheel units around so you have to pick and choose the parts you turn you attention to. At the current price it makes no sense (unfortunately) when you look at the other parts that I am looking into….
I would be interested to know who would need one…maybe they want to see it installed in a Typhoon 😉
Thanks Anthony and Graham…much appreciated.
When you have been researching and cataloguing for 15 years you get to find out there are alot of items left that you don’t realise 🙂 sabre isn’t as much of a concern compared to wings and measurements….
The plan is for everything to airworthy standard and see how far I get 🙂
You never know who reads the forums….does anyone know of any Typhoon main spar parts, in particular front spar? I do know of some and trying to secure them but any extra information is always welcome.
Oh…just recently picked up 2 pairs of undercarriage…They were NOS (have surface rust after 70 years!). The size of these things I would not like to have to start again.
You are right in that there is some commonality between some of the smaller tubes of the typhoon and the hurricane and even some of the earlier bi-planes…Unfortunately the Typhoon was a big beastie so lots of the tubes were unique to the Typhoon & Tempest.
I have a list in all my paperwork…are you interested in gauge, diameter and specification? lengths could be a little longer….
Thanks for the post….only taken 15 years lol
now you are talking…when will the t50 be ready? 😉
I just need the front spar to enable the jig to be started…a few leads which I hope will come to fruition this year but if anyone happens to have one lying around 😉
Hi Andy,
Still here but not able to make the aero jumble unfortunately…
I am wondering if the wing parts are the elevators that were at the last one….but would appreciate it if someone could let me know (if actually wing parts then I will definitely look to try and follow up).
Dave
That’s interesting cees…They told me that they had had other interest in the fuselage and had higher offers but preferred my submission!!!
