A large order was placed in 1940 for the military DC-3, which was designated C-47 and became known as “Skytrain,” a name it would soon be asked to live up to.
http://www.warbirdalley.com/c47.htm
The notable difference was that the engines were changed to Pratt an Whitney from Wright Cyclones.
The C-53 Skytrooper, was a militarised DC-3, converted (obviously) to carry troops, also used as a glider tug and first delivered in late 1941, but the military C-47 didn’t arrive in service until early in 1942.
But what is this?:diablo:
Complaining has got out of hand?
I always thought that’s what we Brits did best, am I wrong?:D

I’ve posted in the Remembrance threads and done my fair share of remembering over the years!
There are other more important things in life than the XFactor, but along with a million other things, it is a part of life and I personally enjoy it.:D
Anyone who posts here to complain, shouldn’t have bothered to read this thread in the first place, in my opinion. 😡
The result was a complete travesty and proof that the public voting system is flawed.
Hopefully, Laura White will be offered a chance to do something useful with her talent, she was my pick to win the competition over Austin Drage in the final.:(
Simon Cowell wasn’t around after the show ended and I hope he was putting the wheels in motion to do something for her.
Rachel Hylton has no chance of being successful in the music industry, she doesn’t know how to listen and learn.
Ruth Lorenzo’s future looks bright and if she doesn’t go far in the UK, she could make a fortune here in Spain, her future looks very bright.
JLS are a waste of space, not a good lead voice between them and nowhere for them to go unless the teeny boppers vote them in.
Daniel Evans, he’s OK, but not as a recording artist, he’ll go down well in Benidorm or on a cruise ship.
Alexandra Burke, good voice, great personality, should do well now that Laura isn’t there.
Diana Vickers, the dark horse, she has something very different, but will it stand her in good stead for a long career?
Eoghan Quigg, I think he should have left it until next year, when he might have had a better chance.
Disclaimer: The above is my personal opinion and will have no bearing whatsoever on the outcome of this competition.

Truc, having wiped away the tears after reading your touching post, I sadly have no story to tell, other than once again repeating that I don’t wait for Nov 11th to remember the needles death and suffering that wars cause.
Ads, what ads?
I never look at them.
My son-in-law has a great book that contains all the facts, history and figures about the making of the film and some history of the battle.
He sent me a few pages by email, when we were on speaking terms, but I’m not sure of the book title, Battle of Britain, probably.
Here is one of the shots he sent, the line up of pilots makes this worth sharing, those on the right hand side, not the left!:D
Goody, goody gum drops, it’s my turn, so here’s a real stinker, originally posted by Mr Creosote at another place.
It’s a one off and the owner/builder/pilot, flew it from somewhere in Europe to Tokyo in 1937.
It turns out that he wasn’t really a very nice gent.
The aircraft was considered for production, but a war intervened.
For me, kev35 summed it all up in his first post on this thread, when he wrote:
I think the vast majority of us here are remembering all the time and many of us in our own quiet way work to tell some of the stories.
Just as others by their involvement in the historic aircraft industry preserve the memories by ensuring we have a physical link to what is fast becoming an intangible past.
Throughout my thinking life, I have remembered the dead of two World Wars and other wars our servicemen and those at home have been involved in to keep us free, but on many more days than this one that is set aside for remembrance.
Remembrance is a personal thing, one either does or doesn’t.
My father survived the trenches of WWI, did his bit in the ARP, plus working on the Mulberry Harbour project in WWII and later with bomb damage in London.
Without survivors, we wouldn’t have the same freedom we enjoy now, but today is for remembering those who gave their lives, many of them unnecessarily, for King and country.
May they rest in the peace that we hope will continue!
There is much controversy on ye olde internet, reference this proverb, “One Swallow doth not make a Summer.”
[1659 J. Howell Proverbs (English)
My personal preference has always been, “One swallow doth not a summer make,” but who am I to split hairs?
The variations on that theme are many, one even goes on to state, “One swallow a summer doth not make,” or, “One swallow doth not summer make, “One foul wind no more makes a winter, than one swallow makes a summer,” but whichever way one cares to word it, it would probably raise similar discussions about cuckoos.:D
And as we all know, the Swiss didn’t invent cuckoo clocks, don’t we?:diablo:
Buying a dubious item from Ewhatsit and believing it to be the real McCoy, is far better than sending a lot of your hard earned to a Nigerian who has offered you a share in his deceased uncle’s multi million $ fortune?:D
Caveat emptor!
And Humphrey Lestocq actually flew Typhoons.

So?
😀 If you meant, point = clue, the Swallow Commercial appears to have a different shaped fin and a few more cylinders.

Me, proud?
Never!:D
Mum used to tell me, “Pride comes before a fall.”😉
