at least two F-16s bore this number 107: a Netz (of Osirak + 6.5 kills fame) and now a Sufa.

If you mean the Netz, Tsahi has shot a whole walkaround of it in 2004. You can contact him on merchav aviri or on fresh.

I am looking for the Netz with the 6.5 kills! I do not read Hebrew, so any help is appreciated!!!!

This particulare incident took place in the first day of the Yom Kippur War-6 October 1973.
A pair of F-4E attacked a large formation of Egyptian Mi-8’s carrying Egyptian Commandos over sinai (I think it was near Ras Sudar).
As dan said,at least one of them was shot down using the afterburner thrust(I’m not familiar with another such case…)

This incident is fairly well doumented.

That is why I was querying the data, as I had not seen the reported second after-burner events nor the reported 18 Hips of which 4 escaped.

Looking for more data and clarity.

IDF versus EAF Mi-8 Helos 1973

Among the bizarre shootdowns are the F-4E Kurnas “shooting down” Mil Mi-8s carrying Egyptian commandos during YKW, by buzzing them real low and switching burners on, so that the blast pushed them into the ground. Happened on at least two different occasions IIRC.
(Including one when 18 Mi-8s trying to insert commandos got bounced, so bad that only 4 escaped. Quite a slaughter…)

Great information, can you provide the date, location and sources for the two after-burned kills and the same data for the other F-4 14 kills

    kill Wreckage!!

The news media from many countries were all over the Bekaa Valley getting video of the wreckage sites and interviewing people who saw the wreckage fall to earth. The IAF F-16A’s had seven kills and no losses while the F-15A’s had twenty kills before the combat over the Bekaa Valley started. All the claims about killing F-15’s or F-16’s, why aren’t there any wreckage sights of which the mass media can find? Twenty kills against no losses for the F-15 translates to a news worthy item for the first crash sight of an F-15 (just as there was for the F-117). This was not Israeli territory, it was Lebanon (a few in Syria) and the press moved freely. Why no wreckage of American fighters? The obvious answer is there were no wreckage sights, I have not heard any other alternative…. does anybody have another reason why there is no wreckages sights of American fighters??

    Adrian

We should be able to see a lot of these type of sites scattered all over Lebanon and parts of Syria. This is a shot down SyAF Mi-8 Hip helicopter.

    Hermes

The next gen ATGM in the similar class looks to be the Hermes. They might introduce an ARH MMW radar guided model of the AT-9, or they might just go for the Hermes or both.

Any additional info on the Hermes?

    Cobra versus Hind

The Hind was a Czechoslovak one (crew Toth, Horak, Melisek) and the incident took place on Sep-12-1985. The information about Hind’s rotor hitting cockpit or about the AH-1 being the cause of the crash is false.

The Hind crashed after uncontrollable spiral (descent speed 3 m/s) following an unsuccessful attempt to enter a hovering mode caused by an unlucky combination of high altitude and lee side of the mountain. Interestingly enough, another Hind (crew Kackovic, Striz) sent to the area an hour later experienced exactly the same problem, falling into spiral with descent speed even greater than the first one. The only reason of its recovery was the fact that the heading of the second Hind allowed to dive the machine into a nearby valley.

No shotdown, just an accident. More details and pictures here.

    Folks,

These are two different events, to wit:

16 June 1983, while patrolling the East German border near Kassel, a Soviet piloted Mi-24 Hind-D crashed and exploded trying to mirror maneuvers being performed by an U.S. Army 11th ACR, AH-1S Cobra (Giovanni de Briganti, “Border Patrol: On The Frontier With The U.S. Army In West Germany”, Rotor & Wing International, Nov. 1985, pp. 59-60; “Military Flight Safety 1983”, Flight International, 24 March 1984, p. 753; “Hinds on the border”, Defense Hoverview, Defense Helicopter World, Aug./Sept. 1986, p. ??; World Air Power Journal, Volume 37, Summer 1999,pp. 51-52).

These are actual images of the Hind before it crashed from the Cobra crew and post crash image of the crash site.

Of course it is taken in Syria. It’s written under the picture “Syria, 2008”, just that nobody read it, instead preferring to launch speculations.
Besides, it wouldn’t make any sense for the Syrians to send their old Mi-8s to Ukraine just to be trashed and left to root – they can do that at home, cheaper :diablo:

Any idea what air base these Hip are located??
