Magnificent ground and aerial shots! Some taken with a top of the line camera and lens for the time!

Personally I wish you hadn’t posted these excellent images. I’m so ruddy disgusted at what is happening to the RAF. I’m ashamed to be British. We invented the Harrier! 🙁

Apologies if this post upsets a few people.

Spectacular photos for sure! No, not an upbeat time for the RAF!

I’d like to join in with a ghostly Spitfire as well, but I only have a ghastly one !

Yikes, I like the zebra or safari look on some aircraft, but not to sure about the Spitfire.

Really neat to see these old shots. Especially of the gliders since I have started my gliding lessons.

Only a small proportion of aviation related pictures, but might be of interest anyway.

This is my site full of pictures from the time around Normandy 1944. I got them from a French university FTP server years ago and have recently got around to hosting them.

Is it normal for that Sopwith’s engine rpm to sure so wildly like that??

I thought the same thing. The engine is surging continually in that overhead shot. I’m guessing that engine may need a little work to smooth things out, but I’m no expert on Gnome engines!

P.S. Just did a quick search. There are many videos of that engine running more consistently. In this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYc-H8Wg-MQ&feature=related it sounds pretty sweet when they have it wide open!

Nothing like a great video to get you excited first thing in the morning. Cool to see a plane maxed out with another just generating enough lift to prevent a stall.

Discovered this organization (Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust) recently.

They are making significant progress to enhance public awareness about the importance of airfield history and heritage and preservation.
Some very interesting videos and stories.
If abandoned airfields tweak your curiosity, do check this site out!

Two of us braved the weather to have 2 mins silence at our little memorial this morning, I thought about some of the clips you have used in this tribute, helps bring it to life for me, makes me feel very humble and indebted.

Excellent news Jack. Glad I could bring the event a little more to life.

This morning a memorial plaque to Flying Officer H P M Edridge was handed over to Dixter House, a historic home in the county where Hilary Edridge of 222 Squadron (Spitfires) lost his life on 30 October 1940.

I have been involved in trying to get this organised for the past 18 months, and we had intended to have a little ceremony involving family etc this summer. That fell by the wayside due to lack of interest/support from the Parish Council and so now we will have a dedication event next summer.

Sorry about the quality of the photo of the plaque!

Excellent stuff Andy. Better slow progress than no progress.
    Cheers!

Congratulations on a well done project.

I think your text should read cooperation between “Britain Australia and Canada” and also “Britain’s most effective,” The Scots Welsh and Irish also flew in Lancasters and would take umbrage at being described as English.

There are at least two Lancaster crew members that frequent http://www.lancaster-archive.com/

    Thanks David.
Yes, your point is well taken and recognized in regards to the cooperating countries. The number of participating countries extended beyond Scotland, Wales and Ireland and so I amended the description to acknowledge countries belonging to the British, Commonwealth and Dominion realms. By all means, no intention to exclude.
