While there is good interest in the Lancaster bomber in this forum, I would like to reach as many surviving “Lanc crew members” as possible. Are there certain internet sites that stand out as being visited by surviving Lancaster crew or relatives of crew? http://vimeo.com/13430247
Re an operational tour, I might be mistaken but I thought 30 trips was the norm, disregarding the PFF (50) and some normal Bomber Command squadron half-mission ‘credits’ against ‘soft’ targets towards the end of the war.
An evocative compilation, well done!
JM.
Forgot to reply here. Yes JM, 30 missions was by far the norm for a tour of duty in the Lanc. http://www.vimeo.com/13430247
Was in a butchers shop yesterday in Wakefield, and happened to notice behind the counter a picture of a Lancaster bearing the name Santa Azucar. The picture was of the front end, and of the crew, and it was the owners father who was one of the crew in the picture. He told me that it was based at a Yorkshire airfield.
Can anyone shed any further light on said aircraft?
For those concerned about the mention of only 3 countries in the video, I have amended the description to give credit by including all British, Commonwealth and Dominion aircrews who flew the Lancasters.
