The F-35 will hardly be any more expensive than Japan’s Mitsubishi F-2 fighter, that is one thing for sure.
But most of those countermeasures and warning systems my not be very effective againt the missiles available to the separatists. How are you going to jam a Buk missile?

Anyway, it seems to me that Ukrainian aerial activity has been seriously curtailed since the Russian separatists gained better anti-aircraft “assets” – Buk missile systems, etc.
So, why adding a PESA-equipped fighter into its arsenal, why an own – and therefore cheaper – AESA-equipped version is nearly ready ? At best a politically motivated deal. … or as mentioned, its the 117S engine.

I’m not sure what the Chinese would hope to learn from the Su-35 that they couldn’t learn from a typical China Southern Airlines Boeing 787, especially avionics and powerplant wise. The COMAC C919 will eventually be powered by the CFM LEAP engine, which is also pretty advanced.
‘Teal’, for a colour – a ridiculous interior designers invented term (yes, really – that’s where it came from) for a set of shades of green-blue & blue-green.
Named after a duck – of which there are different types (Eurasian & North American) with patches of three different greens & blues between ’em, none of which is much like the colours I’ve seen in MiG cockpit pictures.
Would you be happy with the the so-called colour ‘cyan’ (which seems to me to be just as much a recently minted colour title as ‘teal’ is?)?

It’s just as well they don’t then – or ISIS and any of the Afghan insurgents. If all these fighting groups did have such anti-aircraft systems how do you think the USAF, etc should go about dealing with them?
That’s the point. Why use $60million+ aircraft against terrorist when they can use a cheaper aircraft with CAS just as good.
Terrorists, what terrorists? Terrorists are not usually armed with Buk and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles – the A-10 has been very lucky that it hasn’t had to face such weapon systems in the last 10 years or so – unlike the Su-25.
I don’t think many countries want the A-10, certainly not Israel. There is very little that an A-10 can do that can’t be done by an F-16 or F-35.

In what way have aircraft projects failed? First time I’ve heard of it.
In Afghanistan, those choppers usually land in uninhabited areas.
In Nepal, relief helicopters usually land near villages and ththis is the main issue with the high downwash of large helicopters like the chinook and ospreys.
There is very little reason to believe that the downwash from a Chinook would ever be a problem to the local buildings – surely the helicopters can land sufficient distance away from any settlements, and surely the capabilities of the Chinook more than make up for the potential risk? Would the villagers rather go hungry and without medical care instead?
