Well, the PAK-FA project will be 3 years and 7 months into its flight test programme tomorrow. Are they actually ahead or behind in the schedule? How do the 4 T-50s flying compare with the F-35 flight test schedule in June 2010?

Lightning is the most overrated fighter interceptor. It only carry 2 missiles, can’t fire head on.
Such an armament was typical for interceptor designs from the 1950s: MiG-21, Mirage III, Su-9/11/15.

But they didn’t drop it so early, the Soviet government had issued tenders in 1963, so the project was already 12 years old by the time it was canceled. The flight test programme was so protracted it took almost 2 years to complete it’s entire 10 flight test sorties. Compare it with the A-12/YF12/SR-71 in the 1960s.
