The Super Hornet and Euro canards were also optimised for air-superiority but TVC was never a requirement, why?
I can understand the Su-34 not having TVC – but the F/A-18 and the MiG-29 have flown with TVC for years – but nobody is interested in ordering any with TVC. Some of the world’s largest air powers have opted for TVC for some of their combat ac – but only for a minority of them.

All Euro canards, Super Hornets, Su-34s, MiG-29Ks, don’t have TVC, why should the J-20 have it? The only combat aircraft being developed at the moment with TVC that I know of are the Su-35 and T-50.

Why should it have thrust vectoring? Most new combat aircraft being delivered or will delivered in the world don’t have thrust vectoring.

A. Its turning and dog fighting ability make the F-35 look like a Fokker triplane
B. Its A-G ability is pretty zilch.
C. Its about as stealthy as a north Sea oil platform.
D. You would need your own oil platform to buy and operate it.
E. there aren’t many of them in the world – around 110?
Wouldn’t the Venezuelans be interested in some spare F-16 engines? Can the engines from an F-16C be fitted to and F-16A? (GE or P&W?)
Wouldn’t they Mig-29 already have fired its R-27s before the fight become WVR, though? Would an F-16 have fired its AIM-120s even long before that?

The Bulgarian flight instructor makes it clear in the article that the avionics and weapons systems were not really been assessed in the combat exercise. It was an exercise to just see who get on each others tail for a gun kill. The F-16D Block 50 and a 1980s MiG-29UB are on different planets regarding their weapons and avionics.:rolleyes: Nice article though.
People should understand that having HMS and HOBS missile is not the end of the dog fight. For example, Bulgarian Mig-29 pilots were able to repeatedly defeat F-16 with JHMCS and Aim-9X using only R-60 and no HMS.

That’s a very confused reply – the majority of the USA’s fatalities in Vietnam weren’t even sitting in helicopters at the time – and regardless of the hugh heli losses that the US suffered they still continued to use them. How many tanks did the soviets and western allies lose in WW2, did those countries stop producing and using tanks after 1945? Is the tank obsolete in 2012?
