I can’t see the next manned flying 5th gen aircraft being anything other than Chinese.
If their bird is the image of the PAK-FA, I’ll cry. (Luckily I didn’t have to use the tissues HAWX ace kindly gave me)
I want to see innovative stealth solutions China, that’s an order.
Of course we’re not here to be helpful. We’re here to take over the World!! and now we have the wonder-weapon to do it (the Su- ‘I’m Gonna Git You Sukka’– 50)…AND YOU’RE FIRST NORWAY!!
Shadowpuppet, have you been tinkering with ‘Kommersant’s’ pictures again?
😮
I know natzing!
Something bothers me about the video. It just doesn’t match the flight photos. The engines are smaller in the video, not a lot, but they seem to be slightly different. The tails don’t match. The video machine looks rougher than the one in the photos. Could the video be some kind of full scale mockup prior to the actual flying machine?
I believe it was mentioned in the last thread that one prototype would be static, one for taxiing and then a third for flight.
I think it’s two videos cut together – one of the December taxi trials, and then of course yesterdays flight.
Well, they say a picture speaks a thousand words…so I’ll stand aside……
…’with all do respect’.
😀
Actually, I don’t think the F-35 looks too bad..
Can you imagine if the PAK-FA had been a dead ringer for the X-32?
*shudders*
Where’s Scooter?
With all “do” respect…
For those who actually work in the industry, there was no egotistic feeling of superiority.
I don’t doubt that for a second 🙂
I was just alluding to the comments by people, who to my knowledge, have no direct role in the US aviation industry – who used the absence of a Russian stealth aircraft as evidence of a shortfall in Russian technical know how.
Stealth, like any other design attribute, has to buy its way onto a design.
I agree 100%
Unfortunately, I don’t think Europe is capable of making a unified effort that would result in a 5th generation fighter coming on stream in the next 15 years.
Too much pride would need to be swallowed and too many compromises made.
But I guess the pride comes from the major players believing (I think rightly) that given the funding, the UK, France, Sweden, Germany, could probably produce indigenous 5th generation fighters, fit for their own purposes, in a shorter timescale.
Honestly, I think if you handed Saab two billion euros today, they could come up with a nippy little stealth Air Defence fighter that would fly in 3 years and be in service in 5-6 years. Repeat that for BAE, Dassault, etc.
Hence my earlier thread were I suggested a unified airframe, with open system architecture – where each nation could decide on powerplant and avionics. Just get the nations to agree on a basic airframe. But hey, good luck with that.
Would it be an F-22 challenger? No – but in concert with existing 4.5 fleets… it would be interesting.
Yep. Not to pi$$ on anybody’s parade but “welcome to 1990”.
I think that sort of misses the point.
Since the fall of the Soviet Union and the subsequent financial crises – people were very dubious as to whether the necessary funds, technology and brains were there to create an aircraft such as the PAK-FA. 20 years after the YF-22 or not.
There was a conceit amongst certain people and groups, that Stealth was a technology only available to the United States. Read back over the threads if you have to.
It was in evidence right till the end. Was it founded or unfounded? Well let’s say it was at least up for debate.
This demonstration flight goes some way towards answering those charges.
I’m not interested in flame wars/nationalism. The US is clearly the master of Stealth technology, they are the pioneers and their military aviation industry is the world leader.
When the US replacement to the Shuttle takes off in 5-10 years, I’m sure someone can pithily say “Welcome to 1961”. But that, again, would miss the point, which is “we have the brains, we have the know how and we have the money to create something most of the world can’t even dream about… set us a task, give us the resources and we’ll do it.”
The Stealth challenge was put to the Russia, and I think they’ve gone a long way towards proving they can do it today. Obviously we’re a long way from operational status – and that’s going to be an interesting journey – but they’ve made a big first step.
No pics or video on the 7 news. Ok, I admit defeat – time to get a few hours sleep!
Night folks.
Flight was the lead story on Russia 24 tv, but no photos…
Hm, I’d be surprised if some werent released before Muscovites go to work
So what are we thinking….
A pic from an official or unofficial source is going to be first on the intertubes?
I’m going to treat myself to a cigarette.
