Yeah lots of flap settings with Boings. I remember the 737’s Flaps 0,1,2,5,10,15,25,30,40, frickin 9 flaps settings, mad.

Gotta love the Airbus FBW, flaps like a Cessna 150 😀 😀
People often ask me what the noise is in the centre cabin after start, that’ll be the PTU doing its auto test and the clunking is the brake valves :p

Not true, underwing engines are designed to shear off if impacted in a crash. How do i know, used to mend ’em, now i fly ’em.

Also most post impact fires are caused by the fuel tanks being ruptured.

Flown 737’s Airbus 320/1/330. Been on the FBW type for 10 + years now, sheesh.

    You got it 😀 😀

One day you’ll get an answer right.

Ex Iberia 320 in Bilbao, severely damaged in a landing accident in 2001. Only 5 months old, but a write off. Airbus subsequently modified the ELAC’s and made recommendations for landing in very turbulent/windy conditions.

230 kts till late on finals, delayed flaps. Well you might make a nice landing in Liverpool, but not in Manchester.

Reminder. Quit whilst you are ahead….

Allow to explain my thoughts about this being a fast approach:Allow to explain my thoughts about this being a fast approach:

This was at manchester so it quite possible there was a BMI 330 behind the TCX 757. The A330 is notriously fast on approach. So fast that often it jumps the que for landing. This wing on it is just so damn efficiant they can’t slow it down as well as any other pax jet.
SO……, our TCX 757 is on approach and is told by ATC to maintain a speed a little longer than usual so that Mr. BMI A330 doesn’t have to circle in a hold. consequently, The flaps are commanded at a much later time than usual.

Now please, tell me whats so funny about that? Seems perfectly logical.

OK lets take this all apart.

Maybe there was a BMI 330, but the 330 is no quicker on the approach than a 320/1 or 757 etc, its all weight dependent. The wing is very efficient true, but speed control is all down to good management by the crew. Its classed as a Cat C aeroplane. If it was a DC10 then they are a tad quicker over the hedge, not much though.

Next, if ATC have a sequence for landing its highly unusual to “Jump” the queue, except if its an Iberia flight in AGP, which is perfectly normal 😀 😀

Next most airlines SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures” forbid what you are calling late flap deployment. Its normal practice to be stable and fully configured with power on at a minimum of 1,000′ above the ground, roughly 3 and a bit miles out, most achieve the requirements by 5 miles out. ATC often ask for 160knots to 4 miles, but this makes for an unstable approach, most of us do our best.

Happy to educate, but please i do have nearly 9,000 hours on Airbus and Boings, so i like to think i know what i’m doing. Perhaps WYSIWYG can chip in.

i was joking. The better term to use would be:
They were told to keep a certain level of speed that didn’t require flaps, until late in the approach.

Bwahhaaaaa, that is even funnier yet. Please quit whilst you are ahead. 😀 😀

The aircraft is being disassembled, not scrapped. If it was going to be scrapped the majority of airframe would be itsy bitsy pieces.

At places like Manchester ATC regulate speed control. Usually 16o kts to 4nm. As for when the pilot dangles the Dunlops, depends on many things.

There is one at the former RAF Gatow in Berlin, this was the last example to fly. A colleague of mine flew in in there, back in the late 70’s.

Yes, its gonna be used as a Promo aircraft. Not only will it tour Europe, but North America and maybe further afield!!
Mind i think Red Bull is banned in France, so perhaps they’ll give France a miss

Bottom line this 6 is going to be fully functioning, including the pressurisation!! The rebuild is seriously comprehensive, on a very low houred aircraft anyhow.
The list of goodies, GPS and much else they’ve fitted is great, whilst keeping originality as best they can.

Water Methanol, ie. is an Alcohol. Used on the 6 for more power on take off at high weights and high altitude airfields.

F/O that i fly with has 3,000 hours on them.

BTW, your gonna love the Red Bull DC6 which should be flying soon, best 6 in the world bar none.

Hmmm, not sure about that, by all accounts the aircraft had been ferried from MIA to Luanda, and in storage for a year or so.

    News article

There was a thread on Pprune about this incident which is more detailed than i can hope to write here. 😎
