A Genuine ‘Battle of Britain’ Veteran.
And the Merlin III looks an absolute jewel, last seen the aircraft didn’t look all that bad either.
Hi All
To use a phrase long out of fashion “a real bobby dazzler”!
Best of luck with the project Steve, I have attached a picture of Duxford’s machine, it was taken in early August when she was outside for a couple of days.
Regards
Eric
An additional gallery at Cosford would be just the ticket, “such things are dreams made of”.
I’ve attached a picture of the York at Duxford in early August.
Regards to All!

I have no intension of discussing the merits of the individual aircraft, we have all got our own opinions, however remember this any aircraft is an inanimate object unless you stick a pilot in it, he fly’s it, he fights it!
My point is it was a bunch of hero’s who fought and quite often died in the air campaigns between 1939 and 1945 that were responsible for the final victory.
Let’s not forget it!
Eric
Ps: The Corsair was taken at Duxford on Saturday the 5th August 2006, has anyone any ideas on who was flying it?
I’m sure I read somewhere that it also to do with rules governing twin engine high speed aircraft, that is why the Tigercat is leaving aswell.
I also remember hearing that Mr Grey would not be able to fly it on these shores because of rules governing the age you could fly twin aircraft.
Please correct me if i am misinformed
What you have heard may well be true, from our perspective it does not really matter, as I have already pointed out the current ‘TFC’ policy would now appear to revolve around flying single engine aircraft only.
Still I would have loved to see the Beaufighter fly.
Had an email from the LLA stating they are staying put. 😀
No move planned at all; surprised there are only 20 replies to this thread, thought there would be more.
It’s amazing what Chinese whispers can achieve 😮
Brian.
I am in total agreement with Brian, mind you I long ago gave up being surprized by the MOD!
Eric
No disrespect to TFC, but it must be a hell of a project if they can’t finish it, they’ve had it on the go for well over ten years have they not?
They have indeed, ‘TFC’ have made a decision to go with single engined aircraft only, as to being a “hell of a project” it is!
good to see ned kelly is alive and well
The Ned Kelly comment is uncalled for, for anyone who thinks otherwise look at the man-hours spent on the restoration to date and do a quick calculation on the likely cost for these alone!

Having read your comments I thought I would have a look at the offending news item, I must say that I agree with your general views; the article is a hatchet job. The only thing the un-named journalist and I would be able to agree on was that a number of accidents had occurred, beyond that the piece was a load of ill informed drivel!
I will be interested to see any reply received from the Rag in question, but I will be surprised if you get anything sensible from these people!
To broaden the whole thing out a bit, in these days of 24 hour news coverage the news media tend to belabour every possible aspect of an incident, almost to the point of being ghoulish. In any incident involving loss of life, the only thing necessary is to report the event and then leave things well alone until families have been informed etc. What we tend to get is a report of the incident on television and updates every half hour with an increasing amount of non-news, while this is going on a few news teams will head off to poke about a bit for some human interest and report that, to top it all off a good dollop of speculation on the cause of the incident is then added in to the equation!
As we all know the printed news media is if anything worse with this idea that “the public has a right to know”, the facts yes but surely not all the intrusive stuff and speculation that is added on!
My message to the media is give us fair and honest reporting of events, rather than the sensationalist space filling that we so often get!
Regards to All!
Hi everyone,
The site is full of fantastic photos taken from various events, the high standard that a lot of aspiring novices are trying to reach.
My thoughts are would people be willing when they post photos to mention the exposure and settings used. I’m sure this would help a lot of people.
Thoughts anyone.
Regards
Tony
Hi Tony,
I am sure the details would be of interest to some, the attached was taken at Duxford in August on a very bright afternoon at about 1600Hrs using a 300mm lens, the camera was set for shutter priority at a speed of 500th of a second, the aperture was F14 and the ISO setting was 400.
I normally would have used an ISO setting of 200 or even 100 in light as bright as it was that day, but the 400 setting worked fine in this case!
Cheers
Eric
It may officially be a Nord 1002 but it’s made out of 1942/1943 Messerschmitt-produced Bf 108 parts – makes it a 108 in my eyes!
Any shots of it lower down with some non-sky background?
Unfortunately I did not make it to Portrush last weekend, more serious happenings in the aviation world put me off the idea, however I did take these at Old Warden on the 6th August, I hope they will keep you happy Damien! 🙂
Hi
MJ627 rolled to a halt with its engine off after the remaining Spitfires had all landed at the end of yesterdays show. Apparently his brakes had failed, so he landed last so as not be in anyone elses way. This was planned, so he must have known the brakes had failed – what would have informed him of this? Is there a hydraulic line pressure guage, or could he tell any another way?
Well done to all the pilots and ground staff for putting on the show in such wind! It was a shame not everything went up – and also that not all the airworthy UK Spitfires could be gathered in one place for a historic show. Maybe for the 80th anniversary!
DS (badly sunburnt – it might have been windy, but the sun still shone
😡 <- just the colour of my face – not angry – just sore!
Do not forget that 2008 will be the 70th anniversary of 19 Squadron re-equipping with Spitfires at Duxford, surely IMW will not pass that one up!
Some nice pictures Rob, see the private message regarding the dark picture concerns!
I seem to remember an at times fairly heated debate about all this some months ago, the result in one case was a member withdrawing from the forum. Lets not revisit old ground; we are loosing some old friends and in time gaining some new ones. In the meantime remember that “The Fighter Collection” is a business, like any business it will from time to time dispose of some of its assets to allow purchase of other assets (For assets read aircraft)
I have gained much pleasure from seeing so many beautiful aircraft flown at Duxford, many being part of the Fighter Collection, my thanks go to Mr Grey for his part in making that possible. Lets all now look forward to those new aircraft waiting in the wings!
Ollie regarding the Airacobra, I get the impression that it has suffered from overheating problems for some time, a new radiator is now being manufactured, which should sort out the problem.
Regards to All
Hi all
I have only just seen this post whats it all about Duxford flying to end soon? :confused:James
Could be a storm in a teacup, but I think we are conspiracy nuts at heart!
