How complete is XR517, are the engines still fitted

The Sea Hawk is in all essentials complete, including new wheels and tyres which were fitted prior to the move!
On a technical note, the aircraft was powered by a single Rolls-Royce Nene engine.

why the need for the lowloader? could the aircraft not have been towed?
what is duck oil? how could i get some

The Buccaneer and the 330 are the two widest aircraft we have at present, from what I can gather permission would not have been granted, to be honest we never even asked!

I used to visit the museum in the 90’s. Sad to hear the owners are throwing it out. Anyone know where the collection is moving to? i heard a few years back rumours of a possible museum being established at Limavady WW2 airfield?

At the moment I am not allowed to give details of where the collection has gone to, as soon as we are in a position to do so, details will be posted!

In the mean time, any of you out there who are in the know, please keep it to yourselves!!!!!

    Cheers

Another instalment in the great leaving Langford Lodge Story.

On a very wet day in early December 2005, we moved the Seahawk and Wessex, I think you will agree it was an interesting sight, although what passing motorists thought I do not know.

    Cheers

    Hi Peter.

Currently restoring an FN4A(AW Whitley)tail turret at home, on behalf of the Ulster Aviation Society. If I can figure out how to attach some pics., I’ll have a go later.Posted a request last November looking for control grips but alas, no luck yet; certain internal parts are hard to find, and even harder to persuade folks to part with them(even when they themselves haven’t got a turret!)

    Cheers,
    John

I have attached two pictures of John’s Turret, taken in May 2005

    Regards to All

The collection is in storage and is all under cover, at the moment I am not allowed to identify the location! I am sure that a number of people reading this may already be aware of that location; if so please keep it to yourself. When we are in a position to say more, details will be posted!

XV361 was purchased from the Ministry of Defence in 1994 for the sum of £9000, by the Ulster Aviation Society. During her operational life she served on HMS Eagle and HMS Ark Royal; after transfer to the RAF in 1978 she went on to fly with 15 Squadron in Germany and No’s 12 and 208 Squadrons at RAF Lossiemouth.

On the 7th April 1994 XV361 made what was intended to be her last flight when she flew from Lossiemouth to RAF Aldergrove for onward transport by road to the UAS facility at Langford Lodge. Due to logistic problems it was decided that one last flight would provide an easier means of getting the aircraft to its final destination, permission having been obtained XV361 departed Aldergrove at 1100 Hrs on the 18th April 1994 and landed on runway 21 at Langford Lodge 92 seconds later!

This 92 second epic was we believe the shortest planned Buccaneer flight, it was also I believe, the last flight of an RAF Buccaneer in the United Kingdom, whilst under RAF command

    I await correction!

    Cheers Everyone

    XV361

The engines have not run since she flew into Langford Lodge, lack of a suitable Airstart has been a problem!

We took the aircraft out of the hangar on the 17th December 2005, in order to test the required hydraulic and electrical systems, plus a few others before the big move!

Regards to all, hope you like the pictures!

    XV361

Regarding the condition of the paintwork on XV361, the aircraft is as per her arrival at Langford Lodge in 1994! The condition is down to being housed undercover, together with a bit of TLC.

A correction on movement date, the aircraft was lifted onto the trailer on the 21st and moved under police escort the following day!

    Regards to All!!!

PS: Three pictures of the move added.

Nice pictures, I think we must all have been up past the the vip tents, anyone who left early missed a great finish! As I live in Northern Ireland, I only arrived home this evening and will post pictures when I have sorted through them!

A great show, although I was disapointed that a couple of the displays where cut short, regarding toilets etc, I think the organisers never exspected to get the crowd they got, I heard a figure of 50000 visitors!

    A Question of Funding!

I have looked at the various comments regarding access at Duxford, see my own thoughts below:-

Sadly folks Duxford has the same basic problem as every other aviation museum in the United Kingdom, funding! The level of available finance determines the quality and size of the available display space, Duxford’s pockets are better filled than most, but they are not bottomless.

Unhappily state funding is poor and unfortunately we who are involved in running any sort of museum facility; do not in general have access to the kind of philanthropic aid that has been available to certain well known institutions in the USA!

In essence we all need increased funding, the question is who does it come from?
