Great pictures Eric, I have some just like it……;) π
Hi Dave,
If memory serves me correctly we were standing beside each other clicking away, such is the joy of Duxford!
Cheers All,
Eric
PS: Much as I love Jargon, can someone explain in plain English, is there a major problem with certifying this particular aircraft, or is it time honoured British civil service preoccupation with crossing T’s and dotting I’s?
I think ive spelt his name correctly anyone got photos of this free french ace who flew the Hawker Tempest among other types amazing man what was his book titled? π
The book was the “The Big Show”, a must read for anyone who thinks that 2nd TAF had it easy late in the war!

ML 407
Hi DCK,
As a starting point, back in the mid 1990’s a book titled “2nd TAF SPITFIRE – The story of Spitfire ML 407” written by Hugh Smallwood and published by Solo Enterprises, was available. The ISDN is 0 9511390 2 9.
I have checked the Grace Spitfire website and it is still available from them at a very reasonable Β£12-99 plus P & P. I have attached the web address

Thanks everyone, this thread is a shining example of the best this forum has to offer.
Thanks guys for being up the sharp end, but thank God you never had to do it for real!
Eric
Hi Tony,
A bit of confusion on this one, C7 made a test flight on the 28/08/1934, the aircraft having been assembled and rigged, the pilot is unknown however the aircraft had been signed off by a Cpl Curran.
The exact date of delivery is unknown; however there is evidence that it may have been a considerable time before the above date. The next flight was on 26th March 1935, when the aircraft was flown by a Lt Keane for 35 minutes.
Sadly Jackson’s book is of no help in this case as he generally refers to C of A issue dates. As ‘C7’ was regarded as a foreign order, no C of A was issued. However hopefully with more research more of the aircrafts history can be uncovered!

PM me!
I seem to remember an Air Bus demo some time back that ended with the aeroplane in the forest, need I say more?

Canon 40D
Hi,
I’m going to be buying a Canon 40D (with the 17-85mm IS Lense) within the next few weeks, and I was wondering what your guys views on the camera are…
Thanks in Advance!

Sam,
The reviews I have read have all been based on a pre-production model, however the vibs seem good. For my own part, I will try and hold off buying a 40D body until the price comes down a bit!

but I feel that the place is never really on top of what it is doing, so many gems n the collection but no one really knows what to do with them, heres hoping that they find a budget plan that will help the place flourish even if it mean a few measly quid on the door.
Regards,
John.
I am in total agreement John; I just wish that Hendon could sort out its staffing problems. It is frustrating to travel long distances, only to find that the section you particularly wish to visit is closed due to staffing problems, which I presume is short hand for lack of funding!

βAn Irish Airman Forsees his Deathβ
And this for all who lost their lives in combat defending this land and its people
Martin
I echo your sentiments entirely Martin, almost the first thing I did when I heard of the tragic event at Shoreham, was to look up βAn Irish Airman Forsees his Deathβ, a favourite poem for many years.
I raise a glass to all the heroβs!
