    J-10 new CG by stinger

It also shows how easy it is to create fake pictures using such high quality CGIs. I’m not so sure I would recognize it’s a CGI if I didn’t know for a fact it is.

The Israeli Sa’ar V is said to have stealth technology.

We live now 25 years further on. Many parts inside AIM-120 are chips. If a handfull of that is from the “read only” type, there is no chance to bypath this.
To avoide friendly fire you can integrate some frequencies of IFF on a chip to block firing.
But I do not see this with Jordanian AIM-120.
It is enough, that you need to introduce a cryptic password code from the USA, which is to change every 6 month for example or the AAM becomes inoperable at all.
Does the IDF-AF have “all free” examples of AIM-120 really??????

Well, I didn’t know much of what you’re talking about. The 6 months password looks like a good solution.

    Hi Erez,
do you have an idea, where many spare parts/help of Iranian weapon-systems in the early 80s came from?

Yes, mostly from us and the US. We preffered them over Iraq at the time.
Still, today we see a growing number of locally produced American designed weapons in Iran.

As long as downplaying another non-indian… Whatever. Jordan is close with Israel but I hope Erez can shed a light why Jordan is okayed and Egypt not. I thought that just after Israel, Egypt was second in getting military aid. How come they do not get AMRAAM? Is Egypt moving away from US or is it dangerous for Israel with whom it has treaty?

That’s where you are sadly wrong. Israel is close to the regime. We have peace with the palace, not the street. The Jordanian streets are filled with angry Palestinians.
Egypt isn’t in a much better situation. The existance of a pro western regime in the post Mubbarac age is uncertain. Even though I must say that there are quite a few positive developments in the recent time in the Israeli-Egyptian relationship.

The lifetime of 50 AIM-120C components is time-limited. The replacements for that are coming from the USA. Where is the security problem?

The very same thing was said about the American weapons that the post Shah Iranian regime got in the late 70s, but they continue to operate and manufcture much of it even today.

does the jordanian AF have its own 100% local repair cadre or it employs european/US contractors like the saudis do ?

I don’t know exactly, I think they do their maintenance on their own.
The planes to carry the AMRAAMs are Block 15 F-16 ADFs.

Coach, are you sure that’s the Simorgh?
I thought the Simorgh was a program to make F-5Bs out of F-5As, while the Saegeh is the twin finned F-5.

The problem as far as I concern is selling an advanced weapon system to a country ruled by a minority, that could fall to the wrong hands.

Sorry Camaro, no info on the web about the the Sniper’s weapon systems…
The Sniper program itself seems to be pretty much dead. The prototype is standing static in the Aerostar factory:
    http://www.mig-21.de/Bilder/MiG-29_13.jpg
The Romanian airforce decided not to go for it.
However, Elbit seems to continue with the program on its own. This is the Sniper simulator as displayed in Aero India 2003:
    http://www.acig.org/artman/uploads/is_sim_001.jpg
    Frog ACIG:
“The star of Elbit’s stand was their MiG-29 Sniper simulator. Though Romania abandoned their upgrade plan, Elbit continued to build on the exisiting features and this new offer is a step up from the original Sniper. The cockpit features two giant 6×8 inch AMLCD MFDs, an ElOp-967 HUD with an UFCP, HOTAS and the DASH Helmet mounted sight.Other features include an INS with GPS, digital moving map, IFF, onboard systems monitoring, mission computer and new communication and navigation systems. This simulator with the digital video recording system and audio, is offered along with the upgrade package itself. “

Well, it all depends on how fast will the “Python-6” appear. The Python-5 was partly financed using the money earned from the sellings of the P4. The P6 might be financed using money that will be earned in P5 deals.

    The F-5BR looks very impressive.
But just one thing – I don’t think it will get the Python-5, at least for a while, until the next generation missile will appear.

About that (http://bbs.china.com/images/2004-11-26/11014625823.gif) cockpit pic, I’m pretty sure that what we see is indeed the J-10 cockpit. It’s not the cockpit of the Lavi, or any other western fighter jet, or any other russian or Asian aircraft that we know, yet the equipment and configuration is extremely similar to that of the Lavi. It’s the same cockpit from the earlier pic of the avionics lab that was posted a while ago. I think that it’s a new trend in China – they started the declassification of the J-10.

As far as I know, the Chilean F-5 Tigre III is the best upgrade, but actually they are all pretty much the same. Two of them are Israeli upgrades, while the other isn’t very different.
The Tigre III is now capable of using the Python-4 and Derby missiles.
    Good info and pics:

Well, the world of aviation itself slowed down in the recent years. Once, like in the Cold War, when planes were developed all the time, there were tonnes of interesting news.
Now it’s a far more peaceful world, with the main war being the War On Terror, that doesn’t have much to do with aviation.

    Erez,

What happened is that next Brazil elected a leftist president.
And the newly elected prez decided that famine was a higher priority than fighters, for Brazil’s immediate future. So he cancelled the deal right away, and many months later they are still only talking about what could be the next plane, with no immediate propects of implementation AFAICS. Sukhoi being in the lead, too.

As much as I hate the cancellation, I have a hard time disagreeing with senhor Lolobrigida about the priorities for his country.

    Shabat Shalom

Wow, that question was asked about a million years ago, but anyway 😉
I think that Lolobrigida sure has the right order of priorities in his mind.
Even though, a country needs to keep at least a small effective army. That can’t be done flying Mirage 3s. I think that the most cost effective solution for him can be the Kfir-2000 – a cheap, reliable, modern and highly capable fighter plane, that also has an IFR probe, needed for a country as big as Brazil. Trying to buy Sukhois won’t help the poors of his people too much, and his army.

    Shabbat Shalom.
