Well another twist. So after the air force commander declares that he diverted funds from l159 earlier this year they end up buying it anyway? Was the entire story a ruse to get aero to reduce prices? Who knows.

The iraqi air force seem to be operating like they are haggling in a bazaar. And to think they could have had these planes years ago without all the twists and turns.

MQ-1 crashes in samawa southern Iraq.

    http://iraqimilitary.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2139&start=450

it crashed near the industrial zone 45km from samawa city.
the crash occured on the 16th of July.
The Iraqi and US authorities are working together to recover the airframe and return it to the US.

its in very good condition though!

PS. The region where it crashed is one of the “exploration blocks” for Russian oil companies in Iraq.

Today the F16 IQ began test flights out of Balad Airbase.

The MOD announced that they will begin reconnaisance duties within days, and combat duties afterwards.

investigation into the loss of 1609 in the US continues and details will be published.

4x F16s arrive in Balad Airbase north of Baghdad.

Should be 3x twin seater and 1x single seater.

At least 4x F16s are on their ferry flights to iraq now. A mix of single and twin seaters. Tomorrow will be the reception ceremony in balad air base.

That particular distinctive style of rear turret was first seen on the B17, then the B29, the TU4 clone of the B29, the TU16, and then the H6 clone of the TU16.

    China needs two separate designs…

1- modern Turboprop for long range / maritime loiter capability… something like a 21st century Tu-142.
2- maybe an unmanned high speed long range bomber

Iraqi Mig 23 certainly carried exocet at least in the late 80s… So fiction wasn’t too far from truth (you could in theory increase the range of missile by dropping it at very high altitude and high speed… But won’t get anywhere near 100 miles (American “special needs” with reading si units perhaps?)

As for aegis…. Topguns don’t need no aegis. They’re the sh*T, only they stand between good and evil etc….

    Super 530F had a kill??

    http://theaviationist.com/2012/09/06/tuaf-incidents/

“a” kill? it had plenty of kills. And that incident is well known now for decades… hardly a secret. I’m sure its been mentioned on this very forum several times…

split up the country into 3 states, belonging to the 3 major factions

You win internets for the day!

The only “issue” is that the “regional powers” don’t want that. And there is the “minor issue” of one of those three states being a deranged death cult hell bent on international terrorism and openly advocating genocide of literally billions of people it deems “life unworthy of life”. And thus the “charade” of the “one iraq” continues… and every time some “news” comes out people always jump to the “wrong conclusion” because they instinctively think of “iraq” as one country and not as three countries at war with each other whilst “sharing” one government/state/bureaucracy/security service… 😀

so not only are Iraqi soldiers not given enough weapons to fight..
    pilots not being paid either

475 Iraqi pilots training in Jordan strike over wage cuts: reports
    #IraqatWar

Reports of the strike after an 80% pay cut come as Iraqi army prepares to retake the key city of Ramadi from Islamic State
    – See more at: http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/iraqi-pilots-training-jordan-strike-over-wage-cuts-reports-5646737#sthash.AdAY1lpO.dpuf

those 457 are not pilots, they are mechanics in training.

their allocations were reduced by the “finance minister” (a kurd and uncle of barzani) who gave them the ultimatum of “they can leave if they dont like it” . Its simply part of the overall internal sabotage campaign against the military by Sunni Arabs and Kurds within the state.

Slowly you’re getting a clearer picture of organised “war within the state” that Iraq is facing… not only that, the “solution” that the USA/EU/GCC deems to correct the problem is to BRING IN MORE saboteurs and terrorists into positions of power… because the “failure” last summer of Iraq’s inclusive military and government was that it wasn’t quite inclusive enough. Had it been more inclusive then Baghdad, Najaf and Basra would all have been “liberated” by the “honourable uprising” (as the GCC paints it) by now… clearly the lessons of Mosul and Falluja is that the rest of Iraq’s security forces need to be as inclusive as the forces that operated in those areas to improve the chances of the fall of the “pro-iranian regime”.

Its like the EU and NATO telling the British in the 1980s that the solution to the Northern Ireland issue is to hire IRA members and pay them to be the security force for Northern Ireland.

There’s no remote-controlled off switch in Western (or any other) aircraft. If there was, there’d be the risk that an enemy would find out how to operate it. Those hypothetical Iraqi F-16s couldn’t have been immediately grounded, any more than Iranian F-5s, F-4s & F-14s were in 1979.

The effectiveness of the different systems can be told very easily from looking at who’s fought who, & the results. If the Soviet/Russian system is so superior, how is it that Israel still exists? And Iran wasn’t crushed in 1980, but (despite being cut off from support for its weapons, including thousands of Americans who’d left in 1979) survived & fought back?

Iran… A country 3x the size. 3x the economy 3x the population of iraq in naturally defensive topology vs iraqs very much naked topology… Which had spent the 1970s building up the most high tech military in the region… With 300x bvr capable fighters and heavy tanks etc…

    Vs

Iraq who’s main fighter jets in 1980-1981 were….
    Mig21mf
    Mig-23ms

No bvr in sight…. Yet the Iraqis took tens of thousands of km.of land. Iraqi t55 and t62 tanks beat chieftains and m60 tanks in every single engagement.

Iraqi bombers flew thousands of sorties into Iran… And the phoenix missiles were hapless. Day after day. These obsolete su-20 and tupolev 16 ad 22 would fly into Iran. Bomb it and fly back. And the hawk missiles and f4 phantoms and f14 tomcat were on tiffin…. (most of the time).

Had the shah been in power though…. Iraq would have been mauled and demolished in short shrift by Iran…. Why is that? Western weapons bankrupt the third world buyer and force then to fight only when it fits the agenda of the supplier. Iran learned that lesson very well when the huge high tech armed force it built up was incapable of decisively destroying the iraqi military in a short swift combat (they should have been able to destroy iraqs entire military in a couple of weeks at most)… Imposing complete air supremacy then using the superior chieftain tanks and hundreds of tow armed ah-1 attack helos to destroy iraqs obsolete armour… And the f4 phantoms would make short work of all iraqi strategic targets in every corner of the country. But it didn’t happen did it… Freaking mig23ms and mig21mf stopped the iranian air force from not only gaining air supremacy… They couldn’t even protect their own airspace effectively from a bunch of obsolete Soviet planes…

In the end Iran held out due to several factors… Iranian volunteers with high morale and heroic defence to the last man, topology, and the inherently limited capability of iraqs armed forces to advance very far or attack very deep into Iran, and Saddam’s difficulty in controlling the shias and make them fight against iranian shias. Iraqis couldn’t choke irans oil exports or attack it’s strategic targets in any useful manner due to irans size. Thus the stalemate happened… But the weapons which should have ensured irans “easy win” on the technically far inferior and strategically much smaller iraq simply didn’t materialise… without support of the oem.

So today Iran would never fall into the same trap again (even Russia S300 saga was another painful episode for them). Sadly our lot walked into it blind and are learning a bloody good lesson.

So please don’t misunderstand me. F16 is a good fighter. If you have nato awacs and tanker support and good lm field support its fine. If you have access to high res satellite info in real time as well as usaf support with sead dead… You will work “magic”. But that scenario is not relevant for our lot. Thus the main reason why the us armaments are really not suitable for us. Perhaps French is a bit more acceptable… Though seeing France being perfectly happy to embargo Russia as well as effectively sabotage iraqi mirages in 1990 it seems Russia and China are the only ones we can rely on for armaments supply. They have the biggest investments in southern iraqi energy and transport infrastructure projects (alongside Korea) and have a reason to maintain and support iraq. USA and EU have more important alliances with the GCC and Israel and Turkey. All of those countries are hostile to iraq and this is reflected in, the media coverage of iraq as well as the results of lobbying against iraq. Thus iraq can never compete with the established allies of the USA and EU within the region. We simply can’t match their capital as well as long term lobbying and soft power and investments webbed with the west and will always thus be treated from the perspective of people who are intent on destroying iraq and hate it with a passion. Haider Abadi pathetically pleading for support from countries that are deeply Allied with our enemies just makes us even more of a laughing stock.
