Whats the use of a Danush when you have the brahmos. The size of the warhead of the danush is not all that much greater and its sorter in range. Is the Danush liquid or solid fuelled?

good to see the old hermes still looking good royal navy take note the virrat is nearly 60 years old and she’s still in service whereas the RN have just decommisioned invinclbe yeah she 25 years old but she still a damn capable ship.

The Invincible decom? When ? There was this news report of an answer in the British house of commons that there was a request from India about the Invincible. Anyone have any info on that? With the viraat due to be retired by the time Vicky comes on board it wouldnt be a bad idea for the IN to go in for the Invincible. It would give the IN a three carrier navy , something they have always strived for as soon as the ADS comes on board.
There have been rumours that the IN plans a five carrier navy in the end. Got this from a report that MIG was angling to sell the IN planes for the five carriers they intend to build. Now whether this means a five carrier navy or just 5 carriers over a period of time is a good question.

India has decided on a synergised land and air-based missile defence system, and the US, Russia, France and Israel would be invited as technology partners, should they agree, and on the Indian side, DRDO, ISRO and BARC will participate.

Following a US presentation weeks ago, the government mulled the offer of outright purchase of a missile defence system, and rejected it, given the peculiar nature of the threat to India, with in-flight missile time from Pakistan being merely 3.50 minutes and from China seven minutes.

After considerable brainstorming, the government has decided to split the missile defence system with a land- and air-based component, while the naval element has been left out because of its obviously offensive characteristic.

Under the new thinking, India will not export whole systems from the US or another country, but would invite them for technological participation, and informally, the US, France, Israel and Russia have been intimated, although officials expressed doubts if the US would participate, whose export offer expires at the month-end.

The other countries see this as an opportunity to build stakes with the Indian military establishment, and India has internally rejected an argument of lowered threat levels from Pakistan because of the dialogue process, and because of peaceful relations with China, on the grounds that these needn’t sustain out.

Isnt it true that most electric subs are more silent than nuke ones when their diesels are shutdown? Its only the endurance of the nukes that make them so formidable. they can sit out anyone.

Ill admit Im not very knowledgeable about current SSK warfare. But Im going to guess that sensers and weapon systems on a Kilo dont match western standards.

Sensors maybe but they are something that can be replaced from another source. Yea the Kilos have the Americans worried. They did quite well against the American Nuke subs by detecting them in the recent Indo- US exercises.

Russia to help India develop nuclear submarine

    PTI PRINT EMAIL
    RUSSIA-LD INDIA
Russia to help India develop nuclear submarine: Pranab
VINAY SHUKLA, MOSCOW, NOV 16 (PTI)
Russia has agreed to help India in developing indigenous nuclear-powered submarine and aircraft carriers, while India is ready for joint development of a fifth-generation fighter aircraft, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee here today.

The issue of vessels were discussed and Russia has agreed to provide all possible help and the advanced technology available with it, Mukherjee said after talks with his his Russian counterpart Sergei Ivanov.

“For some components joint ventures and joint production would be set up,” he told PTI when asked if Russian cooperation in the development of Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) and Air Defence Ship (ADS) projects was discussed with Russian Defence Minister.

ATV is an indigenous project for the development of nuclear submarine and ADS project is for the development of aircraft carriers.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Mukherjee said India will take part in the development and financing of a fifth generation super fighter aircraft project with Russia.

“We exchanged views. Active contacts are going on with Russian side. Our air force is in contact with their Russian counterpart, HAL and Sukhoi Corporation are talking on manufacturing aspects.

“We are keen on taking part in the development and financing of the fifth generation fighter,” Mukherjee said.

He also announced that Russia’s Defence Ministry has agreed to provide access to the Russian GLONASS global navigational satellite system for military application to India, an alternative to Pentagon-controlled US Global Positioning System (GPS).

The two ministers earlier signed the protocol of the fifth session of Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) as its co-chairmen.

Mukherjee also announced that the vexed issue of IPR has been resolved and the agreement will be signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Moscow visit next month.

Ivanov said the signing of IPR agreement will open new vistas for cooperation in most sensitive futuristic technologies.

He underscored that India is the “sole” country in the world with which Moscow has a long-term defence cooperation programme and has opened its whole military industrial complex for the Indian defence complex.

“This is because of highest level trust and shared national security interests in Eurasia and the whole world,” Ivanov pointed out, mentioning India as an emerging economic and military power on the global scale, friendly to Russia and the largest democracy.

Later, the Defence Minister was welcomed in the Kremlin by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who noted “high level of trust” in bilateral defence cooperation and reiterated Moscow’s readiness to further expand military ties with New Delhi.

“It is very significant that interaction between our defence departments are developing in the best way and military-technical cooperation is developing most intensively in the high level of trust,” Putin said.

He underscored that political ties between the two countries have acquired “unprecedentdly” high level.

Putin lauded the recent Indo-Russian anti-terror wargames Indra-2005 in India in October involving paratroopers and naval ships of the two nations.

More such drills are being planned in the future, he said

IMHO the Kanshin class design has been stretched as much as it can be. It time for the IN to go in for a whole new design in the form of the P18 instead of going in for a P15 B later on.
