    An article in todays Times of India states that the launch of the first of the P15A ships has been postponed from Sept 18 this year to March 30 next year . Said it was due to damage to the yard due to the floods this year, lack of parking space when the ship will be launched and it mentioned design problems. Now what could the design problems be? If there is a design problem it does not argue well for a half complete ship.

    Only some 300 km missile for this huge 9000 ton strtegic nuclear submarine? I wish/pray, we may see something atleast 1500 km range Indian or Russian cruise missile.

    Wasnt there a article somewhere not a long time back that the govt has given the go ahead and released funds to fast track the Sagarika program. Looks like it will end up being a 1500-3000 km cruise missle in the end. That’s what the IN needs not an itsy-bitsy 300 km missile.

    Read that the IN is going in for the Trenton as they want to get experience operating this class of ships before they embark on building two ships at Kolkatta each costing 1,900 crores based on a french design.

    Well the IN needs some new subs fast. Hope they go in for indigenous development of a new sub once the scorpene line starts. High time the Indians honed their skills on this front. They have tried their hand at everything else. Now that the ATV is being built think they have the skills required to develop a conventional sub,

    Wasnt there something about Clinton getting one of the Seawolf Nuke subs named Jimmy carter so that he could get one of the carriers named after himself in his lifetime?

    How big will this new baby be by the way and with what improvements with the Nimitz. Had seen an episode on discovery of the new design of the proposed new US carriers , they had a cool stealthy new design but seems it has been shelved for a modification of the Nimitz class as the cost of the new design would be to high.

    Is it true that the Russians are going to decommision the KUZ? Would be a nice addition to the Indian fleet and give it a 3 carrier navy in a short span of time . Guess its just wishful thinking. :rolleyes:

    The Indians should go in for the Rafale to for their 126 aircraft requirement. Not those old F-16’s or Mirage-2000-5’s or the Mig-29- M2’s .

    Looks like the submarine deal is stuck. There’s an article in the latest India today saying that the clearance of the deal was put on hold by the CCS even though it was discussed because of reservations expressed by the PMO and the finance ministry . With HDW throwing their hat in the ring seems like its going to be another long wait for the Navy. The Navy is reluctant going in for the HDW offer cause the Germans dont have a missile on their own and going for the Harpoon will be subjecting the Navy to uncle Sam’s whims and fancies while going in for the Excocet brings in the French again.

    India should have gone in for their own design for the Project-75 which they were in the process of doing so at one time. Remember admiral Vishnu Bagwat saying that powerful arms lobbies were forcing the govt to go in for the scorpene?
