….. and the bar is now Rogano’s lol 🙂
And was then!
Twas a mate of my father’s who retrieved his helmet, hence my interest.
Adrian,
Any chance you were told where in Good Easter he found it?
Geoff
b) Its alloying characteristics …. and elasticity. T50 and T2 are not weldable. In forgoing ….
A small diversion (from a non engineer) concerning your comment that T50 is ‘not weldable’. Are you saying that it is just not possible to weld T50, or something a little less severe such as the resultant weld is very weak and does not retain the properties of T50. Why do I ask? I have had some T50 tubes welded for a static museum exhibit. All looks well to me with no cracking (so far).
That was quick!
A clearer copy would be most welcome if you could manage it, with subsequent due credit to Crown.
Many thanks
Geoff
Anon,
See PM for the details mentioned in post #4.
Geoff
Hi,
Pilot Officer (as he was then) Evans was only with 257 Squadron for a month, during which time he flew about a dozen sorties. Gerry’s suggestion will give you full background details, but if you would like the details of his 257 Sqdn flights to pass on to the family just say.
Geoff
Spitfireman,
Please see PM.
Thanks
Geoff
Against my better judgement, I’ve just saved several tons of aircraft wreckage from going to the scrapman in the morning.
Well done, and a brave move. See PM.
Thanks Gerry, that’s better.
Front row 3rd from left remains the most likely candidate if the dates fit.
Front row 5th from right is a more remote possibility, but I would certainly rule out all of the others.
Hope you have some luck with the squadron association.
Hi Gerry,
Oops. Agreed, none of those. I meant ‘the other left’ of the C.O. (from the viewers perspective) and right of the man with four medals.
Regards
Geoff
Gerry,
Notwithstanding the date issue, if Pete Brothers is there, the most likely contender is the pilot fourth left of the C.O.(?) with multiple medals and second right of the Sgt with four medals. Posting an enlargement of that pilot as per your #17 might help.
Also, have you tried the 32 Squadron Association? They might have a ‘named’ original copy.
Regards
Geoff
…. I took a call from BBC Somerset today as they’ve picked up on it so I’m on their breakfast show in the morning. I’ll just tell them what happened and that’ll do for me.
Hope your interviewer is canny enough to explore (by himself and without digging a hole for you) the role of the recently introduced Yeovilton/Portsmouth link in all of this.
Thanks for that Forey, great help! Do you know what kind of wood they used at Hawker’s?
Afraid not, I just have an example rather than a drawing. Try an e-mail to Hawker Restorations. They will certainly know.
Peter
Flimsy? Don’t forget each dorsal rib on the Hurricane is braced.
Dimensions, extracted from a piece of stringer rather than a drawing (profile being that of a round headed rivet):
Overall height 1/2″; height (base of stem to shoulder of head) 5/16″; overall width of rounded head 3/8″; width of stem beneath head 3/16″

How accurate do you need the measurements? No drawings but do have some original fragments. PM sent
