    Good day!

I was surprised a bit myself!

I believe the ID plate exist today. You may contact the webmaster of http://www.catrachowings/com for its details/whereabouts. Lots of folks collects ’em & according to the CT FG-1D folks a box of blank Vought id plates was found at the Stratford plant some years ago. You are correct there were diff types. This is a Vought-Sikorsky type. I believe also that the UK F4Us had also a diff cockpit id plates.

    Skyraiders Folks:

Found this weary & a bit tired Skyraider flying machine! Somewhere SEA c. 1960s. Photo AEC via FB Let-Let Warplanes. It was designed & built to “fly & fight”. I understand they are still a few samples left behind in SEA! In memory of all those brave pilots & crews that flew it & maintain it!! TC 37-616.

p.s During the late 50’s some of these samples were a the top of the MAP list for S.America AFs but they never did make it!

    Spitfire Folks:

    Good day!

Among the many UK built aircraft that found their way across the pond is this unique & interesting sample of a Spitfire MK.XI. Reg LV-NMZ.

It was flown by Cpt James E. Storey to Rosario, Argentina c. 1947 to be used as a test camera plane. It crashed c. 1951 and later was scrapped for lack of spares. Will attempt to get other angles/details of this fine flying machine S. of the border.

    Good day!

Thank you so much for these nice findings of Costa Rican P-51s. I’ve seen a few….& now tks to your link we can see the whole tree! They were sent there c.1955 during some border conflicts with Nicaragua. The planes got there but there were no CR pilots trained to fly’em. That took some time & accidents. I’m glad LIFE was able to capture these nice images. We’ll try to ID the pilots/maint people with the CR forum folks. Have a few pics whne they got back to the US c. 1957-58.

Should you find a similar link of the Swedish Mustangs shipped to Nicaragua c, 1950s plz let em know!

    Tks again!!

    F4U Folks:

    Good day!

Just an update on a famous Korean era warrior F4U-5N FAH 609 Buno 124715! C/n 0559. We are moving along well in our restoration to static display for now. The new Museum Director Col San Martin continues to make things happen with the help of many dedicated volunteers who also understand our Aviation History & the preservation/care of such a valuable aircraft.

Not only the restoration project will be done but a new module is also being added to give protective shelter to this aircraft & others for other generations to see & appreciate. The journey has not been easy..it has been a project of “blood, sweat & tears” along the way. However, working fm 6am to 6pm like the ants do we’ll keep pressing on! Photo via FMAH.

    http://imageshack.us/a/img43/4333/vrkb.jpg

p.s Not only Col San Martin & volunteers began kicking the FAH 609 restoration soccer ball sometime in April 2012 & now are pressing on to the quarter finals of the World Cup June 2014!!

The aircraft was in flying condition c. April 1980! With the proper fund$ & expert F4U maint personnel this fine flying machine can take to the TGU Honduras skies gain in a near future. But this project may have to wait for a bit at least until the next Word Cup of c. June 2018!! Tks for your support folks! FAH 609 is our version of your KD431!
