I spent many weeks with rib pains after Mike Harding concerts, but like many good comedians he is a keen observer of life, so when he turns serious it grabs you- try Christmas 1914 for a good example. He is also an adopted Yorkshireman despite being from the wrong side of the border. And who can forget Manuel, who dances the the tango with nothing on. Apparently the BBC didn’t catch on to what Ole! Muchos Cohones! meant until afterwards. And I hate scrumpy, while liking Adge Cutler.

He was one of a group of folk musicians who found that the jokes became more and more of his act (Billy Connoly, Jasper Carrot etc) and came to dominate it. Later he stepped back into folk music. Look up Captain Paralytic and the Brown Ale Cowboys for a burst of hysteria.

I will remember for a long time seeing the Lead for the Blenheim Society (Betty George) wearing her “Happiness is a big pair of Bristols” T shirt, complete with head on view of a Blenheim image.

I may be inaccurately reading between the lines here, but I interpret this thread as PLA-MKII wants free copies of the plans. He was offered 2 websites that sell plans and his response was “yes, totally what I want to build but I need the build plans. ”

If he can’t afford the plans he can’t afford the build.

PS I have seen their Tucano at Oshkosh and I want one.

I bought mine from the Grub Street publishers, with the promise that Gordon Riley would sign all copies. I would have bought it anyway (Gordon played an ace for me when I ordered the second volume of Spitfire Survivors from Graham Trant who died before delivery and ensured that I got my order), but it came with a second signature that I couldn’t understand. The book is great, but I would love to know who the second signatory was.

My copy of Hurricane Survivors arrived today, and so far I am impressed. One small query- whose is the second signature on the title page?

Is the Amazon option real? I only ask because I seem to remember that there were issues with some folk ordering Spitfire Survivors from Amazon when it absolutely was not available from them. It doesn’t matter for me because my copy is already paid for.

The one thing that shines throughout the Antiques Roadshow valuations is how often that either I wouldn’t give it houseroom or how I would happily pay twice that valuation. Odd, really.

So today the Trustees held an EGM, on one of the busiest days of the Duxford calendar.

Was anyone on this forum there?

    If so, what happened?

If anyone is interested you can call the official phone number- feel free to get anyone to do so.

I would add to this thread that any Society members anywhere near the YMCA Conference Centre in Newport South Wales (wherever that is- Google is your friend here) at 11am this Saturday need to be there and shout down the attempt to close down the Society – looking at the time frame and internal correspondence it is difficult to imagine any other interpretation other than that the dissolution of the Society is anything other than an attempt to avoid serious scrutiny of the finances of the Society and the manager of said funds.

Mmitch- the Charities Commissioners have been made aware of lots of perceived problems over a while. Unfortunately, those who have dealt with the CC are aware of major problems. The system is built upon the idea that Trustees of Charities are by definition good folk. So policing the oddities in charities is best left to the Trustees, who can call for help if required. If there is a perceived problem then the CC ask the Trustees to sort it. Now when the Trustees might be the problem……. A recent commission (can’t remember which dignatory chaired it) stated that the CC wasn’t fit for purpose. My dealings would entirely agree. The SpitSoc Trustees have told the CC before that despite complaints everything is fine. They accepted that report. This is another go.

I have said before that I am not sure that the Spitfire Society has a place in the new world (while accepting that I was part of making it where it is in the historical canon). Their assets certainly have, and they should be protected as best possible. Once they are, then there can be a go at re-imagining the Society. It may work or it may not.

R6915 Can the meeting accept proxy votes?

Bearing in mind that a carefully constructed barrel roll is a 1G exercise all the way (as with the 707) that could be never regarded as a “high energy”execrcise.

At the risk of being confrontational, could you tell any of us aviation enthusiasts in the North (yes, there might be a few) who aren’t hard wired into the airfield when an open day might be being held?
