    Errr…why would someone send a 109 to The Front in a shipping crate?
    Just puzzled, the only place that comes to mind is North Africa.

    I wonder if this is the same aircraft which I saw displayed vertically mounted on the front of the cinema in Leicester Square London.
    The film showing was Shout at the Devil with Lee Marvin.

    Not a very active ebay trader just one sale. I wonder if this person is acting as a go between,sometimes this happens where the actual owner pays the ebayer a finders fee on completion of the sale. I doubt that any of his for sale aviation items are in Newton Stewart(unless the US left some C130s at West Freugh after the last detachment ! )

    I have been puzzled for ages about why owners pay extra for a special civil reg and then dont even paint it on the airframe because they also have an exemption to fly in military marks. Must have stacks of cash to spare!

    New buiding designs

    Sadly in Britain we suffer from a huge attitude problem where new innovative buildings are concerned. Architects and designers work to the clients brief,balancing cost against a myriad other considerations. When the final design is chosen it must pass planning authority scrutiny. Often at this point the voting is done by councillors with no idea of artistic concepts .That is when we often loose the chance to have innovative projects. Where new styles are built they are ridiculed by a vocal minority who want Britain to be populated by square boring blocks of glass and concrete.

    I celebrate all the new designs as a victory ,we already have lots of preserved old buildings,give the new a place in Britain otherwise we will become a history theme park.

    The Halton glider is likely to be a Fauvel of the RAFGSA which I used to watch flying at Bicester,it actually managed to soar fairly well for its age.

    Actually Propstrike having had four close calls and now knowing a hell of a lot more about aviating I would now speak up and demand to be let out!!
    It was a shocking day when I realised that common sense was not common.

    Trinny and her offer

    Very nice gesture Trinny,by now you will have realised that reggie collectors are are mixed bunch. I used to note everything down but after two visits to Heathrow it all was to much paperwork. Then I started historical research for aviation archaeologists ,and very active pastimes Sub aqua rubber suit explorations, gliding,air photography and tons of other stuff so no time for reggies,I had found out that life had far more to offer.(and a family somewhere to fit in )

    My oddest spotter encounters were at Heathrow in the car park, 3 old age pensioners with notebooks refusing to tell me what had just landed and a chap in an Uxbridge pub who threatened to beat me up because I glanced at his notebook of reggies.

    Now when I am offered a flight I can tell fairly soon from the pilots attitude and pre flight if they are a safe bet,just as Trinny wants to see the potential passenger in person.

    COGEA Spitfire and SEA FuRY target tugs

    According to Brit Mil Aircraft serials by Bruce Robertson,the ex French Mohawks were diverted to Portugal,South Africa among others, some did enter RAF service, however I am not sure where.

    I do recall reading in Control Column that Oficer Cadets recovered the remains of two wrecks from Larkhill ranges in the early 1970s. I understood these were at the time said to be P40s.

    Sadly along with Mickle Fell Stirling and Fairey Battle parts these recovered items of wreckage were sent to a civil scrap yard at Baldock when a clear out of RAF Henlow Museum stored items took place in the later seventies.

    That really highlights the need to have a plan in place when recovering wrecks, many items have been disposed of because those in charge of storage locations had no involvment with the historical reasons for recovery and treated the wreckage as useless untidy scrap.

    V weapons plots

    Sort of a QI comment…..in order to mislead the German forces who were responsible for launching the V weapons a very detailed plan of disinformation was put in place. This involved moving the reported location of where the missiles and rockets crashed. Normally censorship allowed photos of raid damage to be published with very general locations,this rule was altered to allow enough false info to be used. All axis spies landed in the UK were turned into double agents and they were also used to send false reports.
    The ruse did work..actual plots of the V weapons not destroyed in the air did show that gradually a shift to the West less populated areas of the South East of England occured.

    Spits Longest day

    I saw two of the Spitfires parked at Ostende marked up for filming,they were I think OO ARD and OO ARE,operated by COGEA on a target towing contract.I believe there were other Spits ARA,B,C.
    As I was only ten at the time I had no camera and got the details later from Questions answered in Air Pictorial.

    Vulcan losses

    I also noticed that the Vulcan on display at Gibraltar had a fairly short life, due to salt laden air. The very same problem nearly caused the total loss of the Lanc at Blackpool.

    The scrapping of the Vulcan at Blackpool has served a purpose,it has once again caused debate and is making those who are thinking about preservation to make an effort to bring rarer items into actual conservation.

    Also to support the big push to get the Vulcan in the air.
