I never said it could not be done,I questioned the cost involved and pondered that what would end up on display would not be worthwhile as far as attracting the public and giving an advantage over alternative cost effective dispalays in a museum.
When you see the Mosquitoes in a narrow valley this is the Larig Ghru in the Cairngorms.The B25 flies over a small town,this might be Braemar or Tomintoul.The airport used for the filming base in scotland was Inverness Dalcross.
Whilst there is thread drift here I am adding advice from my recent experiences with my health(age 62) I would suggest that regular check ups are made. It took 6 months to solve my situation and it turned out to be a restricted artery which has now been stented. I had not realised just how many aspects of my health were being affected and some were identical to what David has posted.( my uncomfy feeling in the sternum was not indigestion ..it was angina)
Commercial and military pilots do have regular medicals which screen them as much as possible from unexpected health issues .We all vary in our health and its better to consider an individual than generalise.
The scale of this project is massive and I do wonder if it is worth the effort and cost.Submerged salt water wrecks are a nightmare to stabilise and in this case it is not a unique type unlike the recent Dornier channel recovery. What advantage will having large bits of this airframe on the surface have? Could alternative ways of increasing visitor numbers be considered?
Very interesting discussion, the costs of weapons is something which seems to get pushed aside in many accounts of the wars and yet it has great relevance to modern times.
Try applying logic to this situation regarding roads and housing and suddenly many UK airports would have to cease operations, in terms of commerce the financial loss would be so huge that it would never be applied. On the other hand an air display is seen as an event by many and not commercial. Double standards of course.
They did share in the glory and also the sacrifice,however a perception was created that certain types of background would deny you the chance to be a fighter pilot. NCO aircrew played a huge part in operations but officers were given special regard by the media.
The BBC drama First light,based on his book, was shockingly good viewing and dispelled the often promoted notion that all wartime pilots were gung ho upper class hooray henries.
Dont expect any answers,it has finished, ended and even when active getting clear answers was impossible,even the staff were left in the dark most of the time.
