Good article, has to be one of the most remote locations for a small older aircraft collection…and no avgas on site!

RAF Kinloss had a potential gate gaurd Shack, it was flown in for that purpose.However the engineering support RAF boss would not accept being responsible for upkeep.So it ended up on the burning area where it lingered for many years. While at Kinloss i tried to get interest in one of the Cosford Shacks which had served with all 3 current Nimrod squadrons.No official interest and Kinloss continued to be a major RAF base with no gate gaurd until shortly before handover to the Army a Nimrod was placed visible from the road and that one has now been scrapped.
WR977 is at Newark air museum and very well looked after outside with a well fitted out inside.

Looking forward to the Channel 4 coverage tonight. meanwhile the rant about royals and appearance misses the point, the people who fought in the wars did so to enable the Uk population to have a choice and that includes whether to sing a particular song, dress casual or smart or have a shave ! If you are in the forces full time then you get regulations to adhere to plus inspections prior to public events. But the general public including the royals get a choice.

Well done to all the owners of the warbirds for putting on the memorial flight today.
