We live in a mostly fast moving connected world, the method of working around a problem is now common place and it is a measure of imagination to see how this occurs often. Apart from the scale models which need a direct reference to the colour scheme the avoidance of certain words and phrases which are trademarks and copyrighted seems an easy method which will become well used and understood by many.
Thanks Longshot for those links, a very informative and enjoyable draft article which balances the romance of flying boat operations with the reality.
What I miss about both magazines Flypast and AM looking at a particular type is that they no longer list surviving aircraft or substantial parts. I can understand that in some cases the lists would be way to long and fill a book however even a summary would help those who want to find one to view. In table form perhaps? Or have the editors given up with the arrival of the internet?
Sculpture monuments and looking after them are well down the list of government funding. The most dramatic one publicly funded is the flying tribute, the Lancaster. I understand that the armed services were given a choice some years ago about historical memorial funding, the RN chose HMS Victory, the Army chose the Bovington museum and the RAF chose the BBMF.Please correct me if I am wrong. Of course these are all seeking additional funds from the public because costs are high.
how can having freedom to choose be a scandal ? he fought for the very freedom he is using unlike being forced .
Some fascinating lesser known stories in your newsletters thanks.
the Whitley remains were recovered from a high ground wreck site and stored in a Northside hangar until placed on pallets and flown south in a C130 for the RAF museum. A few bits got left behind and were dumped behind the hangar and later covered with a spoil heap, these bits included control lines runs and fragments of cockpit area.
No wings during my time, never had any reports of Shackletons in the woods and i saw the last remains on the burning area.
My own exploration located Anson parts into the South East corner of the bomb storage area in the dunes in 1990,this area has now been covered by a development but theres likely still bits around the Findhorn foundation wind turbines. the Shackletons were at the East end burning area just between the approach lights and the public road.
Thats a superb set of photos and detail of the work ,the scale of the aircraft is huge.
I have a great liking for the mark one Anson and was thrilled when the NZ one flew, its because I grew up in Blackpool and researching the history of Squires Gate and Stanley Park discovered that around 100 were based locally as trainers.
Neat IMDB link but the Mosquitos guns look fake!
Yes indeed, just watched it, this was a fine sighting, the Blue Herald would be Autair and they also operated 748s GATMI GATMJ. A passenger on a BIA or BUIA Herald from Blackpool also started a big UFO news item, she cine filmed a UFO from a window looking towards the tail. Really good shots of a UFO mving very fast in and out of view. Several weeks later ateam from the BBC sat in the same seat and re created the sighting which was.. a distorted tip of the horizontal stabiliser appearing to move as the camera was moved .
I really enjoy your wide angle studies of inside musuems, they convey how much there is to view.
The IWM still from the film gives the name of the camera holding soldier, I have never seen a feature article of the work of that Army film unit and think it would be a good article. It must have taken a lot of prescence of mind to keep filming when the bullets were flying.
