1. Package Q revealed how day time strikes over contested air space pans out for the usaf.
2. The strike package had sead wild weasel support and F-15 cover and still went **** up. Because….
3. Dissimilar types at differing fuel states, mission kills from f-16s having to dump ordinance when being shot at. Dash speeds, and fuel states again being affected by heavy bomb loads.
The airforce concluded that it needed a stealthy type of strike fighter, that wouldn’t be mission killed from being engaged by pop up sam threats.
They concluded that having so many dissimilar types at verying fuel states, and abilities didn’t help.
Even the fighter escort will be at a serious disadvantage here, because F-15s dont like sam kill boxes, and as mentioned before the wild weasels didn’t have the persistence to keep up.
In conclusion
-All or the majority of the strike package should have the ability to self escort.
-All should have the same fuel fraction to simplify planning
-All should be stealthy
-All should retain maneuver envelope when engaged to prevent a mission kill when engaged
-even the fighters tasked with escorts should have a comparable fuel fraction and abilities. It simplifies planning and helps communication.
This is why having 4 + types of fighters
Is bad and 1 joint fighter type is good.
Not to mention the fact stealth in itself is a force multipler.
