I think its a bit late for that. But happy St Patricks day to you. Bit late though. I won’t be going back.I make some suggestion that are better and more realistic than their talk of Blackhawks and Gripens and get ridiculed for it.Ah well, I’m not the one purchasing the aircraft.

Now that I’ve talked on the site some more, I’ve learned they have no sense of humour, don’t get sarcasm and won’t consider theoretical suggestions. A sad, sad day. I’m ashamed to be born on the island:(

Depends on whether you were more used to running an AN2 Colt and a couple MiG 21s that chickens roosted in at night.

    How about an A6 Intruder
or an S3B Viking for running of these new carriers

Phantom II, I think you entirely ruined the F5 idea by turning it into an F16! Still, it is also being shoved at countries that have old MiGs etc to replace.SR71, great idea. Gotta be cheaper than satellites and more versatile. Even today its pretty much safe from harm. Also Vulcans, great idea. Bring back strategic bombers to Europe. We’ve seen that today they are still a great assest and western Europe could do with a few. Also beautiful.

I really do wish that more pics or the video was available online. It really is quite spectacular and when you see the movement of the Lynx in the air you’ll appreciate the difficulty the crew had in getting it on the ground about 20 meters from the seafront road and housing. An excellent job that could have went VERY badly wrong.

    From UTVs website

“No-one was injured when the two-man crew landed the aircraft on Portrush beach where people had gathered for the Irish Surfing Championships.

Eye witnesses said they saw smoke billowing from the back of the helicopter as it circled above the sea before coming down at around 11am.

Steven Montgomery said the helicopter descended very quickly.

“It was circling erratically around at sea. It was just about 20 metres out to sea and then it came in and landed,“ he said.

“It dropped in a matter of seconds on to the beach and it didn`t crash, but it wasn`t controlled. There was smoke streaming out at the back of the tail of it.

    “The pilots got out sharpish.“

An army spokesman said the Lynx helicopter was on its way back to base at RAF Aldergrove when it was forced to make a controlled emergency landing.

“The helicopter was returning from Ballykelly to Aldergrove on a routine flight when the incident occurred,“ he said.

“A suspected engine fire is thought to be the cause although this will of course be subject to an investigation in due course by an air incident investigation team.“

The spokesman said a clean-up operation had already begun but was likely to take several hours to complete.

“Teams from Aldergrove and Ballykelly have been sent to the scene to initiate the recovery of the helicopter by road,“ he said.

“A further team has been sent to the site to ensure that any debris is cleared up and the scene is returned to its previous state.“

The helicopter was part of the 5th Regiment Army Air Corp and Joint Army Helicopter Force NI based at RAF Aldergrove in Co Antrim.

There are over 100 British Army Lynxes operating across the world. The craft is mainly used for transporting troops and equipment in Northern Ireland.”

I’ll get pics later at work at the minute

Well lets see. The Thunderbird is an American Indian legend, but also occurs elsewhere, of giant eagles, which are still occasionaly glimpsed but there has never been proof of their existance so still a legend. They could possibly be remnants of an ancient species of giant bird called the Teratorns, seemingly extinct. So either the Thunderbird or Teratorn would be cool names.
Also up for consideration should be the-
    Stryker
Gollum-both are gray and weird looking
    Vampire
    Storm
    Cockroach
    Lucifer
    Cerberus
    Black Widow II
    Tiger Moth II
Buzzard-common bird in Europe, same as the F35 will be
    Pigeon-Ditto, and gray to boot
Banshee-when u hear it som1s going to die(im Irish, local legend)
Shag-the seabird you dirty minded fool
    Gull
    Skua

The last 3 for the naval versions.Navy types should love the Shag

Flankerman. Your skills are superb. My hat is off to you. This seems to be quite a viable AEW platform compared to some. It could be a good choice to revive. Tough as nuts plane, rough field and STOL abilities with good radar kit. What more could you want, other than an E3.

Thank you very much people. Apologies for the designation mistake.Just curious as to the existance of these versions. Hoped this would be the quickest way to get the quality info.Does seem a strange plane to arm though. But i do love the high engine mountings and its looks.

Antarctica is a far more interesting place militarily than people think. Rumors of French nuclear testing for instance. At least a dozen countries maintain large research stations.

    http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/ay.html

See link. The military importance of Antarctica is due to its possible mineral wealth, some research that take place there including nano technology, chemical and biological I believe and because it is so isolated and neutral means that some of it could be considered worth fighting over.Snatching informations from stations is possible as is taking them over. How are you going to get your station back and who do you complain to about legalities since it belongs to no one. Whilst treaies do exist there isn’t a force to enforce them. Its an excellent way to get technology if you are a small country.
In terms of airpower several large runways exist up to 3 kilometers in lenght.Big by most standards, but it is a difficult place to fly anything.

As I said above OLD thread. I like going back to check the old posts. You get a good view as to how things have changed over three years and just how off we were in some of our ideas about future purchases etc. You also get to see some REALLY annoying Pakistani and Indian flamers.Allah U Akbar was the worst of them.Possibly the most annoying poster EVER. And Biffbutkus was a good poster. I may resurrect some other old threads so beware.
