No, its not about what u consider to be the plane for the combat conditions but the plane you will enjoy flying, that performs the mission you are most intersted in.I want the plane that you’ll be proud to say you fly. Not something like the F/A22 Raptor cos its the best plane and the one ill be safest in. 334_Pegasus has supplied a great answer. Gavin.O has gone for what he’d thinks he’d be safest in, but not what he would enjoy flying unless he really enjoys self preservation. Hope u understand now.

I suppose if you look at one of the cariers the Royal Navy is meant to be getting, fitting an A2A group of SHARs, an A2G group of JSF, ASW/AEW/transport Merlins/Ospreys and maybe some Apaches from the AAC would be crowded place. But still it would be an extremely formidable air group.

I think you need to go to the Su34s bathroom and flush your head in the toilet to cool yourself off on that mission flex.

Reminds me of the American idea of using bats to firebomb Japan in WW2. The though that if they tied small timer activated incendiary bombs to bats and then airdropped them over cities the bats would fly into dark and hard to reach places and then explode and set the cities on fire.I’d love to know if they had a room with a bunch of mad scientists in it coming up with mad ideas to cause havoc because no sane person could think of that.Just how do you strap boms to bats and then set the timer before the drop????? I know its possible to launch pigeons from planes because the British did that and they saved a few crashed aircrews and sent back some great intelligence. Anyway, i don’t see anyone launching bats out of a Spectre.

The forward swept wings really should be sufficient for any maneuvering needs. Note this beauty, sporting a sort of canard thingy ahead of the wings, which doesn’t have a sweep to it really.

I don’t think its a case of their ability to do things better than army units. Having troops directly attached to the airforce means they don’t have to go through the army to get things lazed or have to organise army troops to protect their aircraft. Its just a way to save time. Airforce ground troops can also spend their time working permanently with the airforce rather than being borrowed from the army to do work for them.Ok, you do end up with troops operating under different command in the field but you have to weight this against having to try to organise interservice co-operation which is not great at the best of time. Also if you think about things like army troops trying to bring in CAS it doesn’t really work great because everyone is trying to work on different communications nets.
Not all airforces operate their own ground forces, I think its just a historical thing were the airforce got assigned its own troops because of the thinking of the time. For instance in WW2 the German paratroops were under command of the Luftwaffe, not the army.In the UK the RAF Regiment are not a special force but fairly normally trained and equipped squaddies. They just have responsibility for guarding airfield, operating AA systems but often undertake normal field deployments.

Actually “black projects” are fairly thin on the ground at the minute. Well at least that I can think of.We seem to have figured out all the exciting stuff nowadays. Most projects are being announced rather than hidden and we can already figure out what the next jumps in technology are anyway. The Chinese, Russian and Indian projects are all out in the open despite their top technology. The only craft that could be flying about are American things that are so far beyond todays technology and have no right being airborne. But keep looking to the skies, we need fewer of these computer generated concepts and more flying models. Also CAD/CAM must be ruining a lot of prototype flying.Planes can be designed and flown in the computer and wind tunnel and nearly go straight into production rather than years of test flights in the dead of night.

Its just a bit blurred because his foots moving and the cameras shutter speed musn’t be very high.Nothing more intersting than that. The foot is a bit bluky though because the NBC suit has foot bag things on it to seal it better. And one last thing the MG42 is the joint ancestor of the G3/CETME rifles.

Ok Doh, for some reason I was only looking thru my assault rifle specs. It never occured to me to look at the LMG ones. With the large action and stock I should have thought that it was an LMG.

Despite firearms being something I’m good at IDing im not sure about that rifle. It looks like one of the Spanish built and designed CETME rifles derived from the German G3s but the carrying handle should’nt really be there. It doesn’t appear to be a G36E either which is the standard Spanish rifle so im a bit stumped but I think it is most likely to be some version of the newer CETME versions.

Nah, not what I’m after and I’m from the United States of Britain anyway. I already know many of the major and quite a few minor special forces and the SBS and the SAS are of course very well know. Also they are part of the Royal Navy and British Army respectively, not part of the RAF. Im looking for units specifically attached to airforces.

Actually come to think about it having two Ardvaarks flying with a tanker and a large triangle shaped aircraft does make some basic sense. The scales in the pic are wrong because it is only a representation and it was only made as an example and was then presented as a real pic. If you wanted to fly an experimental craft, sending it out over the North Sea to probe Russian (this sighting was furing the Cold War, can’t remember year right now) defenses from a base that SR71 Blackbirds were flying to Russia come from and thus has great facilities, the tankers with the high performance JP fuel, and top security in place makes sense.
Flying it with two ‘Varks mean you can just claim that it was 3 Varks with their wings swept back (making a big triangular shaped plane), and that the observer wasnt trained and made a mistake. It could be considered poor luck that an extremely well trained observer saw it out in the middle of the North Sea, but he still can’t prove it.

Very good people for at least some of you knowing the origin of the picture. Yes it is a picture created to represent the sighting over the North Sea.I would have though that you lot of “sensible” enthusiasts would not know the story behind the picture, or in some cases be reading UFO publications, so well done to you. I must admit that now that I’m writing this I suppose I do feel a little disappointed in some of you lot though 🙁
