Looks like its going to be a good event, ever growing in stature!

The line up for the aeros comp grows by the day.

Twighlight Run – Wishing you well

Just to touch base and commend all on the LPG for this superb event and for dedicating it to the memory of the sad loss of DS in SA flying T5 ZU-BEX.

Im sure all our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time. I know its been said in a seperate thread but forgive me for repeating it here.

The last Memorial LPG event was for legendary test pilot ‘Gentleman’ Jimmy Dell.

Regrets that H & I wont be able to make this event so, Lakes Lightnings wishes you all the best for this Grand spectacle….Enjoy.

    Splendid Air Show once again.

Just to say what a SPLENDID Air Show once again ….BIG Thank you to Jersey for hosting it….10th year i think!??

Its so good to see some of those rarer and more unusual aircraft participating in an air show. ‘Stuff’ you just dont see at those few remaining UK Air Shows … but thats another story!

    See you there next year!

I too recommed spending money this way- fantastic experience.

I too highly recommend spending money this way as it was a fantastic experience for sure.

A superb prelude to Thunder City if you are of those means, (which im not……yet)

By ‘doing it’, i felt happy to be financially supporting Russell and his team to keep XS458 alive. A Tbird with a pulse & lots of get up and go must be worth supporting.

Id love to get XS420 back into a similar condition but alas, reality calls and i then wake up from my slumber.

Nice one folks …all the very best from us on the sidelines.

    Display flying costs

Here Here for Proctors post above, among with the other good points of you good folks out there.

Im involved with classic vintage Vietnam helicopters and the main cost is always going to be the positioning to and from the event.

Jersey invited us to attend a couple of years ago and you can imagine the flying time from Preston to Jersey and back at 120kts! Same goes for most of you prop/rotor driven things out there.

Dont ever forget, if you want civi owned ‘stuff’ to attend, someone has to pay the costs…. be it the owner through his/her generosity or the public paying to attend the event, or a mixture of both of the above!

We all love Airshows and they are ( i believe) the 3rd ranking public attended event in the UK next to Footie and Rugby.

Airshows are here to stay but it seems in an ever reducting number.

enough blah … Fly Safe and ENJOY

Many Many Congrats and Good Luck to all at XR770

Many Many Congrats and Good Luck to all on the XR770 project!…SPLENDID Folks indeed and another Lightning lives on!

Its nice to hear that this Lightning is going to a good home and will be preserved through these folks’s good will and hard graft for more years to come by its move to Waddington.

As you may or may not know, we at Lakes Lightnings have just done the same with Lightning F6 XS897 moving from AeroVenture, Doncaster to 29 (R) Sqn, RAF Coningsby.

Retro Aviation were brought in to do the dismantling, removal, transportation and re assembly and we are now up to the stage of her going into the paintshop soon to be turned silver and marked up ‘XXX’.

As for the roll out date, watch this space.

Anyway, BACK to this thread and just to say, Heather and i acknowledge and applaud you for your commitment here with XR770….Good Show…

Purists: Refer to the first entry on this post please

Referring you to the first entry to this post.

Preservation is the MAIN issue and the cost of doing it properly is a serious undertaking and for that, im grateful to OC 29 Sqn to have initiated the project.

Yes the F6 had a larger belly tank than the F3 ….and had the advanced kinked wings.

XS897 will have some belly skin modifications and will be sporting the early version tank however, theres nothing we can to to the kinked leading edge wings im afraid unless someone out there knows the whereabouts of a surplus pair of early version/TBird wings!

XS897 presently rests in the corner of 29 (R) Sqns hangar awaiting reassembly having moved from Doncaster AeroVenture last Tuesday 2nd June 09 so if you have info on straight wings, please be quick in getting back to me.

Yes, our painted T5 XS420 at FAST Farnborough does look rather spiffing doesnt it! …….Pride of the Lakes Lightnings “fleet”.

BIG THANK YOU to all at AeroVenture for their support over the years and during the disassembly and same again to all at FAST at Farnborough for continuing to look after XS420 so well.

I understand XS897 will be towed around to the BBMF public viewing area on occasions and at other event days at Coningsby so, she will still be viewable by the public but i acknowledge the fact that its to a lesser degree than before…. BUT she will look spangly and be in a much better condition to weather the weather for the years ahead!!!

I know its not 100% spot on … but thats life in the real world.
