CHOX, i think you are being a bit tough on the organisers, i have attended in the static with my yak for the last few years and the vast majority of visiters are families and they have a whale of a time, they get into the fairground, the stalls the simulator, cockpit photo stuff and walk through of the heavies etc and the flying display is often just a backdrop for them – excellent pr for the airforce. i would guess the enthusiast is looking for something different, say a display by new types or one off flying examples of classic stuff – which is hard to find, what airforce is getting new hardware these days. you have seen it all before but this is not the fault of the organisers, my airfield has over 40 aircraft based there and i could get only 4 to commit for the 4 days that attending wad with their aircraft involves, after the airforces have committed to the show with the military stuff the organisers are left to fill the gaps in the flying with civvy stuff, the vulcan gets paid to come then it is the sponsored teams and solos who are pretty much free to the organisers, what else can they do ? they would have to spend a fortune of the charity proceeds to get the sexy civilian stuff in and the gate take would not go up any more, waddington is a bread and butter show, for the exotic aorcraft you have to hunt out the venues and sometimes you just have to be lucky, the shows like finningley used to be , with lots of service types ripping around the sky are gone forever, i guess thats a shame but waddington is what it is, and it is good at what it is. although i will never understand why parking cars is so badly understood, single file into a field for a queue five miles long?

for the HARVARD we estimate about £500 per hour on the aircaft, we can deduct the value of fuel uplifted at the event, that would be for about 10 mins of display, at display power we use about 48 gall per hour, 20 gal per in cruise and about 30 gal per in climb to display start position.

have read the report and have to ask why ATC screw with the poor sod in the 152 when he is established finals, designated no 1 to land , surely the higher, farther out aircraft should go around. at 16 the lad would not have the confidence to tell ATc to ………. and press on with his approach.
    very very sad

thank you all for your kind comments and beutiful photographs,
TAYLORMAN- with you all the way on the F4U, my father flew it with the fleet air arm in WW11 against the japanese(ps there will be one at the breighton show this weekend if you want a close look at one)
manston airport yes the 52 is easy to fly -sort of point and go, but a bit fiddly with the prop and gills management for cylinder head temp and then there is remembering to put the wheels down at the end!. bit crucial on fuel management- only 120 litres and uses it fast, i only get about 20 hrs a year so mine costs a fortune per hour but the groups i know of with say 200 hrs get about £200 -£250 per hr,
if any of you would like a ride i am at breighton most sundays and it is @ £80.00 for fuel for 25 mins of full on fun,
    thanks again
