thanks very much, at least i know what to look for in a colour scheme.
i paid £21 for the 5 sqn, and £40 each for the other 2. a 5sqn one recently went on e-bay for £63
p.s. i dont have the pilots notes but do have something similar that may be of interest. please e-mail 600bmw@tiscali.co.uk
i too have the “mixed up” lightning, i presume they are all the same?
i have the 11 sqn,5 sqn and ltf versions which were all at binbrook when i was.if you see one cheap snap it up as prices on e-bay are rising fast!!
do SECO huts qualify? i used to live in seco 7 at binbrook in early eighties. i beleive they were short term accomodation for temporary use during ww2. after that i spent the remaining time in a portakabin,ok but the showers used to freeze up during winter and you had to take a kettle of hot water to the shower to thaw the drain out first!
would A.G. Hickman possibly be american as the date/month/year is the “wrong way round”?
i am collecting the series of books

i have got most of a complete set. i have a couple of extras to swap.

during the early eighties princess alexandra visited binbrook to present a new standard andarrived in a dove which taxied virtually up to the parade area. has anyone got any details please?six technicians appeared out of a minibus, dressed in white overalls and did all the checks etc and once the aircraft dissapeared they left.any ideas who they would be?

thats it! i was not an inspector,i was a storeman but we still had inspectors stamps.every bit of paperwork i ever processed was stamped with fps21
if you could find out which factories produced which lancaster parts you may be able to try and work out which department it came from.for instance it may have been some thing like Broughton East Shop
i also did 9 1/2 yrs as an raf storeman and used to have a whole load of lightning part numbers stored in my head. however after 20 yrs they are beginning to fade away although i can still remember a few.
part numbers
the round BES 106 stamp could be an inspectors stamp.i used to work in stores at lostock and mine was FPS21.this meant finished part stores, number 21. the stamp was about 3/8″ diameter
flew in G-ADIA owned by stuart beattie. i have flown in it 4 times now, he is an excellent pilot and we seem to get on well together.
i dont have any aerial shots but i may have about 15 mins video of the whole event when it is eventually processed.
i fly vintage model aircraft and all through the year i make small videos of our flying sessions so that at the end of the year i can put all the clips together and make a small film of the years events. i then put them on cd-rom and keep them filed.i have 2 yrs worth so far.
i have about 15 photos from the charity weekend .it was an excellent weekend but the wind was about 25-30 so no flying on saturday but i got my flight early this morning.
i will never be able to afford my own aircraft or even afford to learn to fly so every chance i get of a flight in something i grab it!!
