Yak 1
Hi 8674
Just completed an updated article on the Yak 1 including new recovery photos, restoration photos of the airframe and engine, wartime photos of Yak 1’s and additional bits on the history of the airframe and pilot. Just trying to find more on the pilot Guards Lieutenant Mikhail Georgievich Kudryashov who was an ‘ace’, born 1920 and survived the GPW. Hoping to find his family over the next couple of months plus the detailed loss report.
(He shot down a Bf109K-4 and four Fw190’s in 1944-45).
Will probably be cut down but will hopefully warrent 3-4 pages in the ‘other’ magazine and then a few others.
Should be out beginning of May.

Tempest II
Hi
Was under the impression that Retrotec could work/make any magneto as they have an amazing piece of kit there.

hanger
Bicester would be a nice central location and with hanger space – both with the gliding club and possibly one of the other unused ones.
Spitfire
I was at Leeming (well my Dad was) from 1977 until 1980.
Cannot remember the Spitfire at all. All I can remember was the Javelin by the main entrance.

TFC P47
274742 WZ-O is shown just a couple of weeks before the full D-Day stripes were added. 20 May 44.
274742 WZ-D has the later stripped down recognition stripes – lower half of the fuselage. 15 Dec 44.
274742 would have carried these full D-Day stripes. The only question I would have is whether she was WZ-O or WZ-D when she carried them during June/July/Aug 1944.
I am sure it has been fully researched/tied up by Jack and TFC.

Adlertag
Rarity
Curtiss props are a lot less common. Luckily the P47 can fly with either.

Fw190
Hi
I checked ‘Green Hearts – First combat with th Dora 9’ by Axel Urbanke thinking it might have been a Fw190 of JG26. Even though there were a few combats and one at 8pm at night, they had no loses.
JG26 were operating from Schwerin but a few other units flew there as well in the shrinking sector. Schwerin airfield was very acive in April/May 1945 and there were dozens of Fw190 loses.

Photos
Paul,
I think it must be an early Mark I.
No fin flash.
Early style roundals including yellow roundal to the wing.
I would guess it is an L series? Need to have a closer look at the serial.

jack ross
I am 90% certain it is Jack Ross.

Will have to find them.

jack ross
Looking at the background – do I see stubby birth trees, small hills and then posts which could be the construction of the aircraft hides.
Makes me think it is Jack Ross.
Perhaps Cotswold Tim would ID him (being 134Sqn and in Russia as well).

pilot in Hurricane
When I looked at it I thought it was F/Lt Jack Ross – 17 Sqn and then 134 Sqn. Lost over the Irish Sea when his engine failed (based in Northern Ireland).

Far right on picture of 134 Sqn
