    Nice pics Peter.

Was just thinking about her the other day and plan to speak to CC on this one. Believe it is off to a German client who has a collection. If finished authentically it will be a red number of 14./JG77 (24.01.42) which became 5./JG5 (25.01.42) and yellow wing tips and yellow engine cowl and hopefully the powlar bear emblem. She probably came from II/JG77. Sister ship 1407 is in Berlin DTM though it carries a mixture of black markings/shield of 5./JG77 and later red markings of 5./JG5. Steve, one possiility is the wings will be rebuilt at Meier Motors as they have the jigs and are doing wings for Bf109E-1 (W.Nr unknown) 6-88 Spanish Legion. Might be other facilities but this one comes to mind.

Think she was built as an E-3.

Worth looking at the Fw200 Condor.

Corroded and holey to the skins but the structure seems better.

If she is like this then it will be a start.

Lets hope the recovery is successful. I don’t want to remember the Fw200 Condor recovery from the sea off Norway a few years ago, though the condition pf parts was quite good. (Being restored for the DTM Berlin).

I hope it is the aircraft in question though this is not guaranteed. I remember the Fw190D recovered from Lake Schwerin in 1989/90. The research was detailed, eye witness found and the very small area of the lake surveyed. ROV sent down and Fw190D discovered in four pieces engine and fuselage, tail and both wings. (Also a MiG15/17 which is still there 🙂 ). All recovered successfully. Only later was it discovered it was an Fw190D shot down two weeks earlier than the one they were expecting, which hit the water at low level when it was like a millpond. The other is still there along with other Fw190D’s, Seibel 204, Bucker’s I recall and goodness knows what else.

Hopefully the ID can be confirmed when it is recovered though even this might be difficult.

    Good luck to all though.

    Lake Lesina

Its not so much of a lake – more of a area of beach/water which has been closes off by the formation of a coastal spit.

    Lake Lesina

More to the point, not very deep!

    Max. length 22 km
    Max. width 3.5 km
    Surface area 51.4 km²
    Average depth 0.7 m
    Max. depth 1.7 m
    Residence time 100 days
    (summer 306 days,
    winter 31 days)
    Surface elevation 0 m (0 ft)

Now, with the German lakes I know of Bf109’s, Fw190D, Bu181, Seibel 204 crashed in 1945 and even a MiG 15/17 post war. Unfortunately all owned by the German Government if you wanted to recover them.

    regards

    Likewise. Such a shock.

Lovely guy, so generous with his time.

Knew him for 8 years and involved heavily with Allied Fighters and the P47D ‘Dottie Mae’ restoration. So sad he will not see the first flight. Cracking onging restoration by Mike Breshears/Airframe Assemblies in ID as well as other projects.

Obviously not read Sgt Sheppard’s account about the transfer flight.

Look forward to hearing his story.

    P3351

she never had a 2 bladed prop, she went to France around June 2nd 1940 and flew home on the 18th.

as mentioned elsewhere, I hope she gets re-engineed with a Merlin III and Rotol prop – not the easiest undertaking in either situation. She is more of a MkII at the moment though marked up as a MkI.

    P3351

I love P3351 and know her intimately but I hope that the new owner undertakes a few mods, changing the late Merlin to a Merlin III, change the cowlings accordingly and changing the prop/spinner to a Rotal example which would be the hard part!

Amazing that the He-115 was recovered at the cost of £115,000 or so and I believe that included the cost of building the ‘swimming pool’! 🙂 The He115 was a big salt/fresh water fjord recovery though to be fair they only had to tow it a mile or so and a take it a couple of hundred yards ashore to the museum.

Lot of the cost was covered by sponsorship.

Any empty swimming pools in Wales?

People should not write about stuff they don’t know or don’t research!

    Hi Hurricane 40

Just seen this looking at PEG Carter again.

I think this is his mothers side of the family. I think his father died in the 50’s but his mother livd intil the 80’s? An aunt was still alive in the 90’s. Could not locate any log books/photos though the dairy entry and newspaper was great to read.

It would seem sensible to add the W.Nr to a component which is most likely to survive a high speed vertical impact. It was probably applied in the factory.

As it went through its career it is not rare for repairs to be undertaken and units changed so unless it is very close to its manufacturing date, there is no guarantee it would be the W.Nr.

I seem to recall 1342 now with FHC, this number was located on an undercarriage leg??

    Nice find.
